These seniors are skilled, talented and ready to take their skill set to the next level all they need is an opportunity. Given that chance each and every one of these seniors will excel at the next level and be an asset for any program.
What program needs a crafty, confident and skilled guard or the better question is who doesn’t. When you look at your program’s needs and what you look for in guards this player surely checks all the boxes. Hunt High School’s 5’10” guard Bria Griffith is that guard you are looking for. She is solid in all the must need guard characteristics such as ball-handling, passing and IQ and excels in others such as shooting and scoring and defending. What sets her apart is her swagger and her confidence things that you can not teach either a player has it or not well she has it and that is going to help her succeed wherever she ends up. Offensively she scored at 15.6ppg and can shoot the long ball and finish in close, can create her own shot and has that confidence needed to be an effective offensive player. She has excellent size for the guard position. Her honors include the 1st team All-District and All-Conference. If you have not seen her play then I recommend viewing her and you will see that she possesses the necessary skills and that added swagger that you would want leading your program.
Riverside High School’s guard/small forward Johnay Goddard is a special player that would be a great addition to any program. She is one of the most complete combo players I have seen with the ability and skills to play both the shooting guard and small forward position. She can defend both positions with ease because of her athletic ability and size but her offensive skills allow her to play in close and finish around the rim but have the range and ball-handling capability to be a valuable guard. What you will also love about her is she just plays hard whether battling players taller than her for rebounds are running the floor in transition she just works hard one of those unteachable qualities. She averaged 14 ppg in a variety of ways but to speak to her versatility she averaged 9 rebounds per game which is amazing for her size. She is going to be a superb college player with her skills which are undeniable but mainly because she is going to work hard and give you all she has at all times traits that separate good players from special players.
Here is one for the old school basketballers, she is a throwback to the days of the dominant post player. Croatan High School’s 6’1” Kelly Hagerty is my favorite throwback player. She excels in the low post with her back to the basket with multiple moves, great footwork and great hands she reminds us basketball people of the days when low post players ruled the paint and the game. She can step out and make the mid-range shot if needed but the majority of her 14ppg was scored in the paint. She also defends the paint as well and grabbed an impressive 10 rebounds a game making her a possible double double player for your program. Even with these impressive skillsets what impresses me the most is her potential. As she matures and gets stronger and works with a good coaching staff she is going to be one we are talking about in years to come. Her honors include the 1st team All-District and All-Conference honors. If your programs are in need of a low post threat that will demand double teams and one that you can surround with shooters then this player is worth the time and investment, she will only get better with time.
When you attend a school that is a basketball powerhouse and competes for the state championship just about every year sometimes you can get covered up because of the reputation and the other great players on your team. This is what I feel has happened to this player her skills are unarguable yet she may have been overshadowed. This player is Jacksonville High School’s 5’2” guard Mia Tucker and doesn’t let her size discourage you this girl can play. Her strengths lie in her quickness and just toughness and willingness to compete against anyone she lines up against. She is special in transition and can score when needed as evident by her 13ppg average but she excels in setting up her teammates. On defense she uses her quickness to cause havoc in the passing lanes to the tune of an amazing 6 steals per game and to prove her grit she also averaged 7 rebounds a game. Her honors include the 1st team All-District and All-Conference honors. There are numerous programs that are in need of a guard with her toughness and abilities and the more you watch her play the more you will see what I mean.
Southern Durham High School’s 5’8” guard Taylor Robinson is another guard that has the skills to make in at the next level. Her ability to put the ball on the floor and not only to get to the hole but to finish in an array of ways is what makes her exciting to watch. If this does not draw you to her then maybe her ability to shoot the 3 ball or off the dribble will prove how good she is. She was able to average 14 points per game as well as 7 rebounds and 3 steals so she can really impact a game on both ends of the floor. Add to this an amazing anticipation and ability to jump passing lanes and you have a complete guard ready to take her skills and improve on them at the next level. Her honors include the 1st team All-District and All-Conference honors. Taylor is the type of guard a program can invest in and bring her in as a freshman and expect her to work hard in practice and learn and as she becomes more comfortable be ready to contribute in a big way in later years.
