It was no small undertaking and after much deliberation, and while there are many players deserving of being on this list, our staff here at Prep Girls Hoops Colorado has settled on the names below for all-state honors. To all the prep hoopers in Colorado, congratulations on an excellent season.
Here is the Prep Girls Hoops Colorado All-Sophomore Team.
First Team
[player_tooltip player_id="95168" first="Raegan" last="Beers"] Raegan Beers Raegan Beers 6'3" | PF Valor Christian | 2022 State #35 Nation CO , Valor Christian
Plenty of people who know their stuff think Beers is Colorado’s best recruit in her graduating class and she might have proved a lot of those people right this winter. The 6-foot-3 power forward is currently the second-ranked sophomore in our player rankings and was named first team all-conference because she led the Jeffco League in rebounds and blocks. Beers ended the season with a trip the state semifinals and an average of 15.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 1.8 assists per game. It’s hard to stand out on a team like Valor Christian but she does.
[player_tooltip player_id="95167" first="Lauren" last="Betts"] Lauren Betts Lauren Betts 6'7" | C Grandview | 2022 State #1 Nation CO , Grandview
At 6-foot-7, Betts is a daunting opponent and the sophomore center is the No. 1-ranked sophomore in the PGH Colorado player rankings. She was named first team all-conference in the Centennial League, ending the season with a second consecutive trip to the Class 5A state finals. Betts was one point and two rebounds away from tying the league leaders, finishing with an average of 17.8 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.9 blocks and 2.2 assists per game. There’s a reason people all over the nation are awaiting this kid’s college decision with bated breath.
[player_tooltip player_id="117697" first="Jessica" last="Bollwahn"] Jessica Bollwahn Jessica Bollwahn 5'11" | SF Columbine | 2022 State CO , Columbine
One of several promising sophomores who played their way into the Jeffco all-conference lineup, Bollwahn led the Rebels in nearly every statistical category. Our 12th-ranked player in the 2022 Class, this 5-foot-11 small forward was already a handful and took big strides forward this winter, averaging 15.1 points, eight rebounds and two steals per game. The future is bright at Columbine and with Bollwahn leading the way, the Rebels are in good hands.
[player_tooltip player_id="117679" first="Marya" last="Hudgins"] Marya Hudgins Marya Hudgins 6'0" | SF Grandview | 2022 State CO , Grandview
Who saw this girl coming? Hudgins won a Class A Private state title with Holy Innocents’ in Georgia as a freshman last season before moving out to Colorado. Now that she’s here, Hudgins spent this past winter introducing herself to the Centennial State to the tune of 10.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, two assists and 1.4 steals a game. Six-foot small forwards with perimeter game don’t grow on trees and Grandview has another special talent in Hudgins, our No. 8-ranked sophomore.
[player_tooltip player_id="95171" first="Mikenzie" last="Jones"] Mikenzie Jones Mikenzie Jones 6'1" | C Vista PEAK | 2022 State CO , Vista PEAK
If you plan to step into the paint with Jones, you better bring your whole heart with you. This sophomore was not messing around this winter, helping lead the Bison to a 22-3 record and a spot in the Sweet 16 round of the Class 5A state tournament. By the end of her second high school season, the 6-foot-1 forward had averaged 11.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, two assists, 1.8 steals and an incredible 3.5 blocks per game. Watch out, 2020-21.
[player_tooltip player_id="117710" first="Grace" last="Moyers"] Grace Moyers Grace Moyers 5'8" | CG Erie | 2022 CO , Erie
Perhaps nobody in Colorado raised their recruiting stock this season more than Moyers did and with her work ethic, we don’t expect her to plateau any time soon. Our 12th-ranked sophomore was named first team all-conference in the Tri-Valley League, finishing third in the conference in scoring. At the end of an excellent season-long performance that ended with a trip to the state quarterfinals, Moyers finished with an average of 14.7 points, 2.9 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.7 rebounds per game.
[player_tooltip player_id="95170" first="Imani" last="Perez"] Imani Perez Imani Perez 6'3" | PF Mullen | 2022 State CO , Mullen
For an athlete with her height and length, Perez sure does know what to do with the basketball in her hands. Largely because of Perez, the Mustangs were getting ready to play for their second straight 4A state championship when the season ended abruptly, but she still finished the 2019-20 campaign having averaged 9.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 blocks per game. This girl truly is one of the top 2022 recruits in the state of Colorado.
[player_tooltip player_id="95169" first="Taylor" last="Ray"] Taylor Ray Taylor Ray 6'0" | SF Highlands Ranch | 2022 State CO , Highlands Ranch
A player with an incredibly high ceiling, Ray turned plenty of heads as a sophomore in 2019-20. The 5-foot-11 guard played in 27 games for one of the best teams in Colorado and averaged 13.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.4 steals. Heck, Ray even found a way to block 1.9 shots a night. This type of player with her length and skill set doesn’t come along often and it will be fun to watch Ray as she continues to grow over the next two years.
[player_tooltip player_id="117682" first="Saya" last="Sabus"] Saya Sabus Saya Sabus 5'9" | CG Ralston Valley | 2022 State CO , Ralston Valley
The 5-foot-9 guard is our 18th-ranked sophomore and was named first team all-conference in the Jeffco League. She helped lead her team reach the state quarterfinals and Sabus is a spectacular pace-pusher who finished her season with an average of 10.2 points, three rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.7 assists per game. This girl was determined not to let anyone stop her this winter and it paid off for the Mustangs, big time.
[player_tooltip player_id="95175" first="Ny’Era" last="West"] Ny’Era West Ny’Era West 5'9" | CG Rangeview | 2022 State CO , Rangeview
As athletic and dynamic of a two-way player as you’ll find in Colorado, West was outstanding this winter and earned herself first team all-conference honors in the East Metro Athletic Conference. Not only did she lead the Raiders in scoring with 16.8 points a game, West averaged 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.3 steals a night. This is definitely a player colleges will be keeping their eyes on.
