It’s worth noting, this was the first thorough eyes-on review of SD GBB talents. More viewings remain, hopefully multiple times, during summer ball/AAU.
It is certain this list will change as players develop and are judged; next rankings publish in September. Who “popped” higher in rankings, or did not appear previously? Impressive climbs up the PGH list are always earned on the court.
#5 – Jayda McNabb, RC Stevens up from #12 – Highly athletic, explosive wing, a mid-major prospect
#8 – Zoey Wohlleber, Waubay/Summit up from #13 – scorer from anywhere on floor with superior mobility and ball skills. All State Class B
#9 – Kennadi Buchholz, DeSmet up from #16 – her post fundamentals are textbook and upside is D-1. All-State Class B
#10 – Rylee Rosenquist, Dakota Valley up from #49 – suddenly, her VB skills transfer over to BB – KABOOM!! – All-State Class A
#14 – Julia Weber, Bridgewater up from #33 – Stealth 1,000-pt scorer shows up at the right place at right time, every time. All-State Class B
#15 – Kelsey Sachtjen, Winner up from #37 – Another complete skill set at Winner, a 5’10 inside thoroughbred.
#17 – Whitney Edwards, Hill City up from #34 – Hill City qualified for State because Whitney’s performances went well beyond expectation.
#19 – Morgan Fiedler, Aberdeen Roncalli NEW – Speed and ball skills brought earned confidence to game-after-game.
#20 – Madelyn Bragg, Aberdeen Roncalli NEW – Smooth and growing before our eyes as rebounder, defender and inside scorer.
#21 – Maria Parsley, Flandreau NEW – Older sister taught Maria well that defense and ball security come first – then, go for the steal.
#24 – Mairin Duffy, St Thomas More NEW – The Last Duffy. In STM’s positionless schemes, she excels on the block, better on the perimeter and best at the elbow.
#26 – Ellie Brozik, Winner NEW – Winner exploits their athletic guards to stress, nay, torture opponents with ball pressure and explosive defense. Brozik moves and jumps so well in this role.
#29 – Reagan Johnson, Sioux Valley NEW – A quick off her feet athlete, who is often over-aggressive, Reagan can dominate a game around with her quickness and floor IQ.
#31 – Jaden Matkins, RC Stevens up from #51 – Earned varsity PT with JV performances and with steady ball handles. Growing as a defender, and grasping opportunities, she should battle for a starting role next season.
The following NEW players have impressed initially, but need more review to rank yet with/against the above group.
