This is our first installment of 2021 prospects who could certainly benefit from a great summer of AAU basketball for the college coaches to see. Take a glimpse of these five names.
Katie Leisen Katie Leisen 5'11" | SF Eden Prairie | 2021 State MN , Eden Prairie
Leisen has a high arc on many of her shots on film from beyond the arc through driving to the bucket. Coming off a torn ACL, Leisen is in the transition of getting her game back full circle, but has a strong natural ability for the game of basketball. She has nice length as a 6’0 shooting guard. Leisen has been a high-profile player all the way up but has been a little under the radar over the past year coming off a significant injury that kept her out of the Eagles lineup.
Allison Miranda Allison Miranda 5'10" | SG Eden Prairie | 2021 State MN , Eden Prairie
Miranda has a sharp shot from beyond the arc. Averaging 5.5 points per game for the state tournament participants from Eden Prairie, Miranda gave the Eagles a viable option from deep on a roster that has so much depth 1 thru 8. I also liked her tape as it shows around the two-minute mark, that she just challenges guards to drive on her to the basket as she uses her strong upper body to stop the guard driving in her tracks.
Briana Stoltzman Briana Stoltzman 5'8" | CG Mankato West | 2021 State MN , Mankato West
The first impressive strength I noticed while watching Stoltzman’s film was the pop she shows when driving to the bucket. She uses a peppy Euro step to get free from defenders when she’s inside the free-throw line or at the bucket. Another thing that caught my eye was her crafty handles she shows off with the basketball. This 5’9 guard led the Scarlets as a junior to a record of 19-7 and averaged over 16 points per game with a high game of 29 (twice) against Owatonna and Worthington.
Avery Irish Avery Irish 5'11" | CG Kasson-Mantorville | 2021 State MN , Kasson-Mantorville
Irish has long arms and is not afraid to use her solid length on defense, as you’ll see on tape when she blocks multiple shooters from their outside shot. The 5’11 forward had just over 12 points and just under 7 rebounds a game for the Komets who finished middle of the pack in the Hiawatha Valley Gold. Another key to Irish’s game is her passing. She finds exactly the right seam to her teammates and passes the ball with good poise. Many of the opportunities she gets to catch and shoot are from well beyond the line, in which she shows off good range from deep.
Bianca Benson, Totino-Grace
Benson is a fearless 5’5 guard who is not afraid to get up close on defense to make the ball handler cringe. Benson plays with a chip on her shoulder. She is also quite patient with the basketball with her focus on seeking out the best possible scoring opportunity vs. taking the quick shot. Her handles show off some craft, but also show the great fundamentals it takes to be a consistent and effective point guard.
