The 2022 class was well represented with a variety of skilled and talented prospects. I believe this class is underrated mainly due the focus on the historic 2021 class. First time viewing for some of these prospects.
Here are some of the top 2022 prospects that attend the first weekend session.
Moore was selected to the 2nd Team All Region (6A Desert Valley)Lilah Moore Lilah Moore 5'8" | CG Arizona Elite Prep | 2022 State AZ (5’9’’, Pinnacle, 2G/W)
Moore continues to improve with every showing and she is just starting to tap into her potential. Currently 5’9’’ but could easily fill out to become a 6 foot big guard or wing. Moore is long, lean and athletic. She has a very fluid release on her jumper and her game is smooth. Her ball skills are improving as well as she is improvising more (see video). I would expect Moore to be a one of the top prospects in the class before she finishes high school. Moore had some big games for Pinnacle and she will sneak up and drop 20 on you before you know it.
You are not going to find a faster player from baseline to baseline. Sanders is a blur.Syrene Sanders (5’5’’, Cactus Shadows, CG)
Sanders is a blur in the open court. She is one of the best finishers on fast breaks in the entire state but what is remarkable is her ability to slow down enough to consistently finish with high efficiency (refer to the video). She has worked extremely hard to improve in the half court setting and her pull up jumper can be deadly. Her ball control is good and she displays court awareness.
Sanders is an underrated defender as she led a very good Cactus Shadows teams in steals. She is primed to have a breakout junior season; Sanders is a tireless worker and well conditioned.
Williams-Pope has a Division 1 body already. She is going to be good!!!Danay Williams-Pope (5’10’, Mountain Pointe, W/PF)
Williams-Pope is an intriguing prospect for sure. She is a people mover down low, an effective rebounder and she can score anywhere in the paint. Tremendous upside as she already has D1 body. If she continues to improve her skillset and scoring ability outside the paint, she will start to attract mid major D1 programs. I know they are watching. I don’t know if she knows how good she can be.
Grimsley was one of the more talented freshmen entering high school.Reagan Grimsley (5’10’’, Millennium, W)
Grimsley is currently 5’10’ and her body type suggest that she will be a 6’’ wing before she leaves high school. She’s a natural scorer with a good-looking jump shot from beyond the three-point line. Grimsley was part of the extremely deep Millennium squad that won back to back titles in the 5A Division and she was not afforded the opportunity to have a major impact as some of the other 2022 players on this list, nonetheless a bright future lies ahead.
Grimsley should have a coming out party in her junior year and she will need one to keep Millennium in the title hunt next year. Several key players graduated and a couple more transferred so the opportunity will be there. She has a long wingspan, she is a conditioned athlete and her skillset is improving daily. She is determined to be a difference maker in 2020-2021.
Wall is making a name for herself in Arizona as she moved to Tucson from the Seattle area a year ago.Emma Wall (5’10’), Tanque Verde, 2G/W)
First time viewing of Wall as she is new to AZ and I did not get a chance to catch any of her high school games last season. She averaged 14.8 points and 7 rebounds for Tanque Verde which landed her on the 3A 2nd Team All Conference Team.
Her jumper looks fluid, she has good length and Wall is a quick learner. At 5’10’and still growing, she is trending upwards and we are eager to see her perform in the team setting this summer. Video highlights her versatility, length and scoring ability.
Ericksen is a quick PG with an accurate jumper. Impressive soph season.Kelsey Ericksen (5’6’’, Shadow Ridge, PG)
Ericksen is a dead eye shooter especially around the mid-range area. Although she is accurate to the 3 point line, she will need to get stronger to increase her release time. That additional strength as size will come as Ericksen is a late bloomer, but she is pretty good right now. Excited to follow her the next 2 years.
Ericksen led Shadow Ridge in scoring during her sophomore season as she made the 1st team All Region Team in the 6A Southwest Region. Imagine where she will be this time next year. We will be there to report on it.
Clardy is a physical guard who not afraid to mix it up in the paint.Tamia Clardy (5’5’’, Tucson Magnet, CG)
Clardy is a physical PG who can score at all 3 levels. She missed her frosh year to injury which makes her soph comeback year very special. Clardy understands angles on the court and she is effective in establishing the tempo for her team as seen in the video.
Clardy has a desire to be the best and you can see it in her eyes. This was our first time seeing her perform so we will be there this summer to continue to report on her abilities. Clardy was 6A Metro 2nd Team All Region.
Halle Bryan (5’9’’, Shadow Ridge, 2G/Wing)
One of the best shooters for the weekend. Bryan has good size for the 2G position and she is a developing athlete. During the evaluation Bryan displayed the ability to learn quickly and skillset is developing but getting there.
Looking forward to watching her perform in a team setting. Bryan was the second leading scorer on the team an was named to the 6A Southwest Region Honorable mention team.
Excited to see what the future holds for Hastings.Tessa Hastings (5’10’’, Salpointe Catholic, W)
Hastings could be one of the better sleepers in this class right now. She is long, wiry strong and fluid. Need to follow this prospect more to determine how her skillset and length translates to the team setting. Interesting prospect.
Felix has a nice feel for the game and she attacks the rim with a purposeAnnelise Felix (5’5’’, Sunnyside, CG)
Tough and physical guard who plays with purpose. Effective ball handler and rebounds well (5.5 per game) for a combo guard. 2nd leading scorer for Sunnyside. 2nd Team All Region (5A Southern)
Kylee Callahan (5’9’’, Salpointe Catholic, 2G) – Good size combo guard who led the Lancers in assists, steals and she was second in scoring. Callahan is a hard-working, quietly tough-nosed, versatile skillfully, and she plays with a good understanding of the game. Callahan was a 2nd Team All Region (4A Kino) performer and one of the better 2022 players in Tucson.
Callahan is versatile and skilled.
