I will now do the same for the sophomore class of 2022 players. A lot of talk is surrounding what a bummer this lack of Spring season is for the ’21 kids and rightfully so, but many of the 2022’s are severely impacted as well. They haven’t been on the circuit as long and will have a minor, or possibly major setback in recruitment before heading into their junior year. Below are some of the players I felt were poised for a breakout Spring season.
“Would’ve Been” Stock Risers:
Player: Zahirah Walton Zahirah Walton 5'11" | SG Kentlake | 2022 State WA
HS: Eastside Catholic
Club: NW Greyhounds
2022 5’11 SF Zahirah Walton Zahirah Walton 5'11" | SG Kentlake | 2022 State WA has one of the higher ceilings in Washington’s 2022 class. The length, athleticism and natural ability is there. She has a smooth handle that allows her to take her man off the bounce in the half court, or blow by defenders in the open court. On the defensive side of the ball, she can defend some 1’s and most 2’s and 3’s comfortably. This Spring would have allowed her the ability to prove she is among some of the nation’s elite on the adidas circuit with the Northwest Greyhounds.
Player: Mackendra Konig Mackendra Konig 5'7" | PG Jackson | 2022 WA
HS: Jackson
Club: Tree of Hope
2022 5’7 PG Mackendra Konig Mackendra Konig 5'7" | PG Jackson | 2022 WA had a monstrous individual sophomore season with Jackson High School. She showed of the ability to handle, shoot and score in a variety of different ways while breaking school and league records in the process. Konig was locked and loaded to play with Tree of Hope 17u on the EYBL circuit where she would have been able to test her abilities against players on one of the truly best circuits in the country.
Player: Tatum Thompson Tatum Thompson 6'0" | SF Woodinville | 2022 State WA
HS: Woodinville
Club: Way to Win
2022 5’11 SF Tatum Thompson Tatum Thompson 6'0" | SF Woodinville | 2022 State WA burst onto the scene with Woodinville this past high school season. Her veratility and athleticism along with untapped potential was very impressive this year. While PGH Washington has her ranked as the number 13 prospect in the class, she is very much under the radar with college coaches. A Spring with Way to Win would only boost her stock and get her in front of coaches that are looking for a long, athletic and unselfish wing that can rebound at a high level. *Feature image
Player: Jada Walters Jada Walters 5'11" | SF Garfield | 2022 State WA
HS: Bothell
Club: YEA
2022 5’10 SF Jada Walters Jada Walters 5'11" | SF Garfield | 2022 State WA had a really strong individual season with Bothell High School. She has next level athleticism that makes her good in the transition game. She had a good Spring and Summer with YEA last year, but I believe her skill set is really coming along. She could have showed her improved all around ability this Spring to the colleges, but coaches will find out in due time!
Player: Ella Koebelin Ella Koebelin 5'4" | PG Klahowya | 2022 State WA
HS: Klahowya
Club: Compete Athletics Basketball Club
2022 5’3 PG Ella Koebelin Ella Koebelin 5'4" | PG Klahowya | 2022 State WA had a record breaking season for Klahowya High School in just her sophomore year. Many people will point to her size right off the bat, but the bottom line is the girl can play. She can defend, handle and shoot it at a high clip. This Spring with CABC would have given her the ability to show what “level” she can play.
