In reality, there are players none of us have even heard of yet who will end up in the top 10-15 of the class by graduation. Beyond that, part of the requirement for making our watchlist was playing meaningful varsity minutes this past season so some were eliminated. Here’s a look at some of the players who narrowly missed the cut for our watchlist but will certainly be in our 2024 rankings in the future.
Riley Simpson, Whitefield Academy – Riley played at Little Flock this season and was not allowed to play high school due to the school not feeding into a high school so she didn’t qualify for our watchlist. Simpson will attend Whitefield next season and should see plenty of playing time for a very young program that should be on the upswing.
Mariah Knight, Butler – Knight appeared in 22 games for a veteran Butler team this season and was strictly a role player, averaging 3 points and 2 rebounds for the Bearettes but should be a big part of one of the best programs in the state moving forward.
Jada Hughes, Eminence – Eminence struggled mightily this past season, only winning 6 games but Hughes was a bright spot. She averaged over 17 points per game in her 8th grade season playing up and would not look out of place on any top tier team in the 8th region.
Sharon Tidwell, John Hardin – Tidwell led her team in scoring and rebounding as an 8th grader and if she improves her shooting overall, she could be in the mix to be a top 10 player in this class down the line.
Dea Bradley, Hart County – Hart County has a talented young roster and Bradley will enter her freshman year of high school after already played varsity for two seasons at Hart. The 5th region is graduating some talent this year but the future is bright in the area with all the young talent coming up.
Sara Ritter, Whitefield Academy – The team at Whitefield this season had to be the youngest in the state as their oldest players were a trio of Freshmen. Ritter will be the team’s leading returning scorer and should have Whitefield as a factor in the 6th region “All A” next season.
Kennedy Bryant, Assumption – After a strong season playing varsity at Whitefield, Kennedy transferred to Assumption where she is likely to be a role player next season but should be ready for a big varsity role by Sophomore season.
Landree Moons, Clinton County – Clinton County limped to a 4 win season this year but Moons was a bright spot as she led the team in nearly every statistical category as an 8th grader. She could play at any school in the 4th region and not miss a beat.
Leah Kaelin, Brown – Averaging 9 points and 7 rebounds per game in her 8th grade campaign, Leah shot an impressive 46% from the field for the season as Brown had a solid 17-12 record. With a solid nucleus returning, Brown is in position to make some noise next season.
Ava Schuremann, Great Crossing – The leading rebounder for the Warhawks in their inaugural season, Ava is a big wing with a bright future and the young core at Great Crossing should have them competing for 11th region championships in the not too distant future.
Janiya Bailey, Bowling Green – Speaking of talented young cores, Bowling Green may have the best collection of young talent in western Kentucky and Bailey is the point guard that runs the team for them. She’s a capable shooter from downtown who probably needs to take more shots from deep to keep defenses honest.
