The sophomore guard lived up to the billing and had a huge impact on an improved season for her team. Her passing and ball-handling were great throughout the season and she made an efficient amount of mid-range jump shots. McDaniel rebounds well and already has the height and athleticism of a prototypical college guard. She’s only going to continue to improve.
Destiny Banks (New Bern forward, 2021)
Banks had a great season for New Bern and played a huge role in the improvement of the program. She ran the floor well, finished her layups, protected the rim and rebounded well. Banks even showed that she could step out and knock down jump shots at a high rate. The Bears junior post player will be a big piece of the puzzle for her team next season.
Kyla Brice (New Bern guard, 2023)
Brice shot the ball extremely well for New Bern during the 2019-20 season. The freshman guard also was able to pass well, play with a lot of energy and confidence, and create shots for herself and her teammates. She’s part of a Bears team that’ll return all but one player. New Bern improved from four wins in 2019 to 11 victories this past season.
Morgan Nesburg (Havelock guard, 2020)
Nesburg led Havelock in scoring this past season. Most of her damage offensively was from three point range, but she also did well attacking the basket with her left hand. Nesburg defended well playing in one of the tougher conferences in Eastern North Carolina: the Coastal 8. The senior guard will surely be missed for a Rams program looking to build into a winner.
Kayla Simmons (West Craven forward, 2020)
Although West Craven had a lot of struggles throughout this past season, they had a bright spot in Kayla Simmons. The Eagles senior forward was a great post presence during the year and led the team in scoring and rebounding. Simmons is a big loss for West Craven a year after losing standout forward Deslyn Abrams to graduation.
