Continue ReadingWe continue our look at last year’s top rebounders in the state with the class of 2022. These players have all had a chance to get some experience and develop at the high school level, but are far from finished products. The common theme with all these players is that they have certain physical gifts that have allowed them to excel as rebounders relatively early in their high school careers. This also gives them plenty of room to continue to grow, making for an impressive overall list.
Anastasia Dowlen Anastasia Dowlen 6'1" | C Russellville | 2022 State KY , Russellville- Clearly a natural rebounder, Dowlen has averaged more than 13 rebounds per game in both her freshman and sophomore season, pulling down 13.2 boards a game last year. She has done this while also playing largely on the perimeter, a result of her physical gifts and versatility. Dowlen has impressive height and athleticism, and as her early-career consistency suggests, a nose for the ball.
Taylin Clark, Butler County- A player with the look of a prototypical big, Clark has the natural instincts to match her natural size. She controls the interior thanks to her impressive length, which she used to pull down 12.5 rebounds per game last year. As she gains more experience and her instincts improve even further, don’t be surprised if Clark tops the state’s rebounding list over the next two years.
Kylie Hall, Phelps- Continuing with the diversity of physical tools that make players great rebounders, Hall is a physically imposing player. She is able to use her size to bully other players on the inside, which combines with some nice agility to make for a great interior player. The result last season was 10.4 rebounds per game, a number representative of her physical inside play.
Anaya Brown Anaya Brown 6'0" | C Lafayette | 2022 State KY , Lafayette- Going back to the tall, lengthy, athletic prototype for a rebounder, Brown is another player who represents those physical traits perfectly. She is able to outleap and out-quick other players without being bullied by them physically. If she continues to perfect her skills, these great physical traits have the potential for her 10.4 rebounds per game to go up even further in the years to come.
Donisha Flowers Donisha Flowers 5'8" | PF Hopkinsville | 2022 State KY , Hopkinsville- Furthering the diversity of physical traits on this list, Flowers fits mostly into the bullying, physical type of player, although she is not quite as physically imposing as some others on this list. She did make the most of her size by combining it with a veteran poise for the ball to grab 10.2 boards per game last season. She also has good athleticism and agility for a player of her size.
Jessica Hedden, Portland Christian- This list ends with someone who does not naturally fit into any of the physical traits listed in regards to previous players. While she has a nice mixture of size and athleticism, none of her traits stand out in particular. While Hedden does not look like a great rebounder on the surface, she clearly has a nose for the ball, as she grabbed 10.1 rebounds per game last year, showing that she is clearly an excellent rebounder.
