All of the players on this list were freshmen last season, meaning that they were going up against more veteran, physically developed players. Nonetheless, they excelled, with all of these players ranking among the top 50 rebounders in the state. It also shows great potential for them to rocket up this list over the next few seasons.
Abigail Runyon, St. Francis- Possessing great size for such a young player, it’s easy to see why Runyon was the best rebounder from the class of 2023 last season. She has excellent height and length with an athletic frame and was able to use those physical gifts to grab 11.5 boards per game last season. As she continues to develop her skillset, Runyon is definitely a player to keep your eyes on over the next 3 seasons.
Talyah McQueen, Bell County- While she has good size for a younger player as well, it is McQueen’s speed and athleticism combined with those traits that land her a place on this list. Not necessarily a traditional low-post player, McQueen took full advantage of her athleticism and hustled her way to 10 rebounds per game last year. As she continues to use her skills to develop into a more well-rounded player, McQueen already has a great rebounding baseline to rely on.
Baylee Davidson, Leslie County- Another player with great physical skills for a freshman, Davidson has all the traits one could ask for from a low post player. She has great height and length, as well as a strong frame to physically battle with more mature players on the inside. This resulted in an average of 9.9 rebounds per game last season, a number that should only continue to rise as Davidson takes more and more advantage of her physical gifts. Expect to see her amongst the top rebounders in the state over the years to come.
Natalie Gentry, LaRue County- More of a perimeter player than others on this list, Gentry has good size for a perimeter player but is not big enough to battle it out more traditionally in the post. Instead, she takes advantage of her perimeter skills, combined with a nose for the ball to grab 9.6 boards a game last year. She is another player who has a lot of potential to develop further on the perimeter, but her rebounding skills give her an automatic level of value that will put her above other players.
