While not as many players from this class were among the state’s top scorers, several of them were near the top of the list. For a sophomore to be one of the best scorers in the state shows that they are exhibiting elite offensive skill at a relatively early stage of their career with room to improve. Expect to continue to see these players among the state’s top scorers with even better numbers over the next few years.
BreAnna Tincher, Jackson City- Despite not being much of a threat from deep, Tincher has the ability to take over a game with her scoring prowess. She took over whole quarters and even games this past season, leading all returning players in scoring with 25.2 points per game. She generated an inordinate amount of her team’s points and was therefore the focus of opponents’ defense, making her scoring even more impressive.
Alyssa Gibson, Red Bird Christian- A versatile player, Gibson demonstrated ability to score both inside and out last season for a total of 21.3 points per game. She has the touch inside to score around the rim, as well as showing a nice stroke from outside. She was also a great free throw shooter, which helped add to her overall scoring numbers.
Cassidy Morris Cassidy Morris 5'6" | SG Trinity (Whitesville) | 2022 State KY , Trinity (Whitesville)- Despite being listed as a point guard, Morris’s abilities on the interior match up with those of the best post players in the state. She was consistently able to get buckets against larger opponents, thanks in part to her great rebounding abilities. She averaged 21.2 points a game last year, and if her decent outside shot can continue to develop, that number should only keep going up.
Mia Hale Mia Hale 5'9" | SF Estill County | 2022 State KY , Estill County- Showing off a nice shooting touch, Hale showed all the skills one could want out of an elite perimeter scorer. She has a nice mid-range floater and showed the ability to knock down deep three-pointers with a strong shot. Combined with her ability to convert on the inside, Hale averaged 19.1 points per game last season, and her wide array of skills give that number a great chance of rising over the next few years.
Allie Stone Allie Stone 5'5" | CG West Carter | 2022 State KY , West Carter- While all the players on this list have the ability to score in a variety of ways from the field, the easiest way to get points is at the free-throw line. Stone led the state last year by shooting 88.1% from the line, with a nice volume of 135 total attempts. Along with her strong shooting from the field at multiple levels, this led to an average of 18.1 points a game last year. If she can further translate her free throw shooting to the field, Stone can be one of the top scorers in the state.
