These players were all freshman last season, yet scored enough points every game to be listed among the top 25 scorers in the state. This shows not only that they have the ability to score, but also have been entrusted with a large part of their team’s offense early in their careers. This is a talented group that has the ability to continue to top the state in scoring for years to come.
Kylee Dennis Kylee Dennis 5'9" | SG Sayre | 2023 State KY , Sayre- Despite playing at a school that is not generally thought of as a basketball powerhouse, Dennis helped power Sayre to a much better season than last. She was far and away the team’s best offensive weapon, and one of the best in the state, averaging 22.9 points per game. If she can become an even more elite scorer, Dennis can help put Sayre on the map and further cement herself as one of the state’s elite players.
Ellie Heid Ellie Heid 5'6" | CG Portland Christian | 2023 State KY , Portland Christian- A scoring wing player, Heid has the variety of scoring skills one would want from a perimeter scorer. She averaged 22.8 points per game while showing a nice scoring touch from all levels. Another player from a school that is not a traditional basketball power, expect Heid to continue to dominate her team’s offense and further her place as a top scorer in the state.
Kensley Feltner, Lawrence County- Yet another player who excelled on a team that was not generally successful, Feltner took advantage of the opportunities that presented themselves on a team that didn’t have a ton of other talent. She averaged 22.1 points per game, often providing a lion’s share of the offense for her team, all while making less than one 3 per game. If she uses this experience to further develop her offensive skills, Feltner’s stock will continue to rise.
Brooklyn Clark, Dawson Springs- The top 3 point shooter on this list, Clark used her outside shooting as one of her primary attributes en route to being one of the state’s top scorers. She averaged 20.5 points while making 2.4 three-pointers per game, while also getting out in transition and scoring at the rim. While her other offensive skills continue to develop, Clark’s shot should continue to make her one of the best scorers in the state.
Haven Ford Haven Ford 5'5" | CG Rowan County | 2023 State KY , Rowan County- While other players on this list have certain skills that make them great scorers, Ford is simply a natural scoring machine. She has great size and athleticism and plays like one would expect an elite perimeter scorer to play. Combined with a natural shooting stroke, her natural skills led Ford to average 19.9 points per game. If she can polish her offensive game, Ford has all the natural ability to be the state’s top scorer.
