1.Julia Dusek, Grafton
Dusek’s been a rock for the Spoilers the last two years and was a key piece in leading Grafton to the state title game this past March. She’s long, athletic and highly skilled. She’s a matchup problem for a lot of teams because of her ability to handle the ball and create while also having the length to score over smaller defenders. The Spoilers are a top-three team in Class B going into next year and Dusek is a big reason why.
2.Haley Gereau, Grand Forks Central
Gereau averaged 15 points and nearly eight rebounds for the Knights in her junior year, showcasing solid efficiency and activity on both ends of the floor. She’s not the biggest, but she’s skilled, smart and plays with a strong motor. The Knights should be improved in 2020-21 and Gereau should be an all-league player.
3.Walker Demers, Grafton
This ranking could look silly a year from now, as Demers has potential to be one of the most dominant post players in the state. As a freshman, the 6-foot-3 center averaged better than nine points and nine rebounds. She had a monster showing in the state tournament, helping Grafton reach the state title game. She’s a strong finisher, rebounds at a high level on both ends and can dominate the game defensively. If she continues to develop offensively, she’s going to be a force.
4.Jasmine Sondrol, Grand Forks Red River
Sondrol averaged nine points and nearly six rebounds in her sophomore season for the Roughriders. She knocked down 33 percent of her 3-pointers a year ago and showed she’s capable of putting together excellent performances against quality competition. If she can take that typical sophomore-to-junior step and improve her efficiency inside the 3-point line, she’s got all-league potential.
5.April Schmitz, Midway/Minto
Schmitz was one of the top players in Region 2 each of the last two years and was highly productive as a junior for Midway/Minto. At 5-foot-8, Schmitz isn’t the biggest player, but she’s athletic and skilled. Midway/Minto won 17 games last season and took third in the Region 2 tournament. Expect the Mustangs to contend in a loaded Region 2 next season because of Schmitz.
6.Jade Azure, Grand Forks Red River
Azure was a productive rotation player for the Roughriders last season, averaging nearly seven points and five rebounds in a complementary role. She’ll have a more prominent role as a senior, and she could be a double-double threat for a team that’ll contend in the EDC and rank fairly high in Class A.
