We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed. Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible. We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges. We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2023’s to put on your radar.
Emma McClintock – 5’7 SF – Gladbrook-Reinbeck
McClintock was one of Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s best players last season as she shot 31 percent from the floor. As a freshman she was asked to do a lot as she started half of the games last season. This is a young team so she won’t have to be thrust into taking over the team which helps her development. She should be a very good piece for them in the next three years.
Averiel Brady – 5’7 SF – East Buchanan
Brady was the only freshman on East Buchanan that saw much time on the floor as she played in all 25 of their games. She should seamlessly fill one of the starting spots next year as they lose three seniors who started every game. She scored 3.2 points a game while pulling in a few rebounds a contest this past year. I look for a big year from Brady as she gains confidence with a bigger role.

– 6’3 C – Bishop Garrigan
Most people already know Crooks because of her play all year and then specifically at the state tournament. She scored 23.2 points a game last year while grabbing 11.9 rebounds a game. The best thing about her game though is that she just doesn’t ever turn the ball over. Crooks is one of the best 2023’s in the state and is one of the best players in the state regardless of class. Make sure you get out to see her next season.
Maeson Wolff – 5’7 PG – Dunkerton
Wolff led Dunkerton in points per game last year as a freshman as she scored 8.6 points a game. Wolff kept her turnovers low and was able to pass off one assist a game. She’ll improve her 3-point shooting next season and should become a big threat on the floor. Once she does that I can see her sliding over exclusively to the shooting guard spot and becoming a sniper from deep.

– 5’7 PG – Bishop Garrigan
Joyce was a great part of that Bishop Garrigan team much like Crooks. She scored 17.6 points a game and she also dished out 2.6 assists a game. She is one of the top point guards in the state and she showed that game in and game out. Joyce is a quick point guard who isn’t afraid to shoot the ball or take it to the rim. She’s going to help lead Bishop Garrigan to new heights.
