Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Reagan Mudderman Reagan Mudderman 5'4" | PG Kee | 2022 State IA – G – Kee
If you didn’t know about Kee’s Reagan Mudderman Reagan Mudderman 5'4" | PG Kee | 2022 State IA before this past season, you definitely knew about her following it.
Mudderman was one of the top sophomores in the state, scoring 19 points per game. She also added 5.6 steals a night, a number that ranked second in the state regardless of class.
She knocked down over 37 percent of her total shots, including 43 triples while adding almost four assists per night.
Kee won 15 games and reached the regional quarterfinals before coming up just short vs. Turkey Valley.
Breanna Hackman Breanna Hackman 5'9" | PF Nashua-Plainfield | 2022 State IA – F – Nashua-Plainfield
Despite being just a sophomore, Breanna Hackman Breanna Hackman 5'9" | PF Nashua-Plainfield | 2022 State IA nearly averaged a double-double every single night for Nashua-Plainfield.
Hackman finished the season at 11.6 points and seven rebounds per contest, adding in 37 steals and 32 assists.
She was the region leader for her class at 44 percent shooting, sticking to inside the 3-point line to do all of her damage. Hackman also benefited from getting to the free throw line 91 times.
O’Malley Fair – G/F – Riceville
Riceville found a key piece to build around moving forward in guard/forward O’Malley Fair.
Fair posted 242 total points on the year, adding in 166 rebounds, 63 steals and 53 assists.
She has some work to do in terms of boosting her percentages after shooting just 31 percent from the field and 23 percent from the 3-point line, but added offseason work should see those numbers climb.
Annie Hoffman – F – Edgewood-Colesburg
Despite playing in just 18 games, Annie Hoffman showed great strides for Edgewood-Colesburg, scoring 117 total points and grabbing 165 rebounds.
Hoffman was strong on the offensive glass, recording 75 boards. She also had 39 steals and blocked 10 shots.
Lydia Imbrogno – F – Wapsie Valley
The leading rebounder in the region for sophomores, Wapsie Valley’s Lydia Imbrogno showed no signs of youth while battling inside the paint.
Imbrogno scored 171 points and grabbed 190 rebounds, with 69 of those coming on the offensive glass. She also had 40 blocks, 39 steals and 14 assists on the season.
