Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2023’s who need to be on your radar.
Alivia Ruble Alivia Ruble 5'8" | SF Southeast Warren | 2022 IA – G – Southeast Warren
The leading freshman scorer in the region was Southeast Warren’s Alivia Ruble Alivia Ruble 5'8" | SF Southeast Warren | 2022 IA this past winter.
Ruble, a guard, averaged just over 11 points per game. She also was the top rebounder on the team at 9.3 per contest.
In 24 games played, Ruble made 20 three-pointers and shot just under 40 percent from the floor, adding in 81 assists, 60 steals and 19 blocks.
Noelle McKnight – East Union
There was a definite youth movement at East Union this past winter, led by ninth-grader Noelle McKnight.
McKnight was second on the team in scoring with 223 total points, leading the way with 29 made 3-pointers. She also attempted the most triples on the team at 104, shooting just under 30 percent from long-range.
To go along with her scoring, McKnight added 46 rebounds, 32 steals, 32 assists and 11 blocks.
Kelly DeMeulanaere – Grand View Christian
Grand View Christian secured a winning season this past year at 12-11 thanks in large part to freshman Kelly DeMeulanaere.
DeMeulanaere, one of five underclassmen starters, averaged seven points, five rebounds and five assists per game for the Thunder, who reached a regional quarterfinal.
She was one of three Grand View Christian players to made at least 10 triples, finishing with 160 points, 124 rebounds, 121 assists and 79 steals.
Kylie Hoben – Grand View Christian
Another key piece to a young Grand View Christian lineup was Kylie Hoben, who came off the bench to grab 144 rebounds and lead the team.
Hoben added 66 total points and a team-high 30 blocks, despite attempting just 69 field goals on the year.
Jayda Chew – G – Murray
Murray had a deep lineup this past year, with newcomer Jayda Chew providing an excellent source of scoring.
Chew posted 126 total points, finishing second on the team in scoring. She also had 58 steals, which led the Mustangs to go along with 56 assists and 30 rebounds.
