There are plenty of 2022 players who are starting to land on some radars, and PGH Ohio will be watching to see how these kids improve over the next few months.
Hannah Merritt, 5-8 Belmont Union Local
Good set shooter from beyond the arc, get a defender on her or she can open up a game. Does a nice job around the rim defensively, good rebounder. Active on defense and continuing to get better. Can push the ball on the break, not afraid of contact. Can finish with either hand. Anticipates well and good lateral movement.
Kenzie Dalton, 5-2 Beverly Fort Frye
Another quality guard who is getting better every night. Quick good handles and fiery guard. Outstanding three-point range, can shoot off the pass or the dribble. Good court awareness, will make the play for her team. Good motor, solid defender. Named to the second-team all-district team. Mistakenly listed as a 2021 in an earlier report, Kenzie will continue to improve playing with a very solid high school program.
Abbey Parker, 6-2 Magnolia Sandy Valley
Strong physical player in the paint who can alter or block shots. Fundamental and good hands, solid rebounder and can see the floor for transition. Does a good job securing the rebound. Moves around in the paint, still working on her complete game. Was honored by media in her district as a special mention player, and looks to make some noise as she heads into her senior season.
Savanna Ankrom, 5-7 Richmond Edison
Athletic guard/forward combo who can score in multiple ways. Good hands, able to handle pressure. Good motor and gives great effort at both ends of the floor. Solid on-ball defender. Constantly working to get better.
Elexis Martin, 5-10 Steubenville
Can hurt you inside or outside, posts up and can score on a bigger opponent, or will step out beyond the arc and make the soft defender pay. Will scrap for the ball on defense. A small forward who has average handles. Would like to see her move without the ball a bit more. Not afraid to penetrate against the defender and draw contact. Can also finish at the rim. Does a nice job seeing the floor. Only a sophomore, room and time to improve.
