ND Attack has been one of the top grassroots programs in North Dakota and has what should be one of the top Dakotas teams at the 17U level this year.
Here is a quick look
Guards: Mackenzie Hughes, Madelyn Schmidt, Elizabeth Schanilec, Zoe McKinven, Tayte Kohn
Hughes and Schmidt are both all-state lead guards coming from highly successful programs, creating an exciting one-two punch.
Hughes is a terrific multi-level scorer who has improved as a shooter, and despite her lack of heigh, is a solid finisher in the paint. She’s also a rock on the defensive end of the floor and can put pressure on the ball and the passing lanes.
Schmidt is one of the top slashers and facilitators in North Dakota and while she’s not real big, she’s slippery and excellent at getting into the paint and finishing. Her defense is top-notch, as she’s a thief in the passing lanes and has the quickness and toughness to challenge opposing ballhandlers.
Schanilec has been a productive player for a number of years and can score at a high rate from all over the floor. She’s got good length, athleticism and skill and should benefit from playing with a number of lead guards who soak up attention from opposing defenses and play an unselfish brand of basketball.
McKinven was the leading scorer for a solid Harvey-Wells County team and while her efficiency wasn’t always a strength, she could benefit from playing with a number of highly-touted ballhandlers and shot-creators. She’s undersized but has the toughness to get up into opposing offensive players.
Kohn was an all-league player from the Little Moreau Conference as a junior out of Lemmon, S.D. and has the ball skills to make plays for teammates as well as the length to guard up in the lineup.
Forwards: Sam Oase, Ramsey Brown, Emma Mogen, Leevi Meyer
Oase has been one of the most productive interior players each of the last two years for a Hettinger/Scranton team that reached the state tournament both seasons. She’s active on the glass on both ends of the floor, finishes at a high rate and brings a presence to the paint.
Brown’s been a productive piece for Devils Lake each of the last two years and has the length and athleticism to impact the game on both ends of the floor. She’s a solid defender who can check both bigger and smaller players, finishes well inside and can make plays in complementary fashion.
Mogen is one of the best 3-point shooters on the team after knocking down 37 percent of her looks as a junior for Watford City. She can rebound, defend and make plays and on a team where she’s playing with high-level guards, she could be more productive/more effective in this kind of environment.
Meyer has been a productive interior player for Stanley the last two years and her length and activity level allows her to produce consistently on both ends of the floor. If she plays a role where she dedicates herself to screening, rim-running and finishing at the rim, she’ll be in position to make a big impact.
