Jaya Nelson Jaya Nelson 5'8" | PF Salpointe Catholic | 2021 State AZ (Salpointe Catholic, 5’10″, W)
Nelson is simply the most underrated prospect in the 2021 class. She led her high school team in scoring (14.3) and rebounding (6.3) while earning 1st team All Region (4A Kino) in addition to being named to the All Southern Arizona 1st team. The Lancers finished an impressive 24-6 record. Nelson also played AAU at it’s highest level while starting on the AZ Supreme 17U (ASGR Circuit) squad. She is primarily being recruited by D1s and high level D2s right now. I expect her to be off the board by the end of the summer.
Nelson is the type of player that will play any role needed to put her team in the best position to be successful. In speaking to both her high school and AAU coaches, Nelson would typically draw the other team’s top offensive player guarding the 2, 3 and sometimes the 4 position.
Enjoyed watching [player_tooltip player_id="113519" first="Jaya" last="Nelson"] develop over the past 5 years.Nelson has a solid jumper and handle and is a tireless worker. She is intelligent, she’s patient and she goes about her business in a calm and calculated way that produces positive results. Her brother Evan committed to Harvard as is part of the 2020 incoming class.
Patience Like (Sandra Day O’Connor, 5’8’’, SG)
Like’s numbers for the year does not jump off the page due to the depth of the Eagle’s team. Although Like was a starter and she typically finished the game in close contests, she was part of a 10 player rotation for the deep SDO squad which finished 23-4 in the 6A division.
Patience Like passes the eye test and she is a deceptively good athleteLike is one of the better shooters in the class, she has a quick release and her ball handling has improve a ton during her junior year. She is a diamond in the rough for the 2021 class and is a definite D2 prospect. Like played a lot at the 3 or 4 positions at SDO due to her frame, her ability to rebound in traffic and the amount of quality guards on SDO but she will be a 2 at the next level. Great teammate and will be a great addition to any program. .
Raegan Farrington (Hamilton, 6’1’’, PF)
Excited to see Farrington perform in an upcoming evaluation session. Stay tuned,Farrington is one of the few PF/C left in the class. She was injured for part of the season which contributed to reduced minutes for the Huskies. Farrington has good footwork for her size and she provides a physical presence in the paint. She does a nice job of keeping the ball up high and away from her defender and she can score quickly off the rebound.
A couple of late developments on Farrington since the season ended: (1) Since he has been healthy for the past 4 months which has allowed to get in better condition for the upcoming AAU season as she has dropped 40+ pounds. (2) Farrington made the Cal Swish 17U (EYBL) which will allow her to showcase her ability once the AAU season resumes. She expects to make her college decision in the fall as she is being recruited a several levels.
Elle Walker Elle Walker 5'11" | CG O'Connor | 2021 State AZ (Sandra Day O’Connor, 5’6’’, PG)
[player_tooltip player_id="136289" first="Elle" last="Walker"].The more you watch, the more there is to like. Many people in the know for Arizona basketball raves about Walker’s moxy, court awareness and competitive nature. She is simply a baller. Walker does an outstanding job of facilitating and her handle is tight. A solid shooter out to the arc as well as an effective mid range jumper. She is rather lean but has good height/length and has deceptive strength. Walker executes the catch-and-shoot beautifully, in one continuous motion that results in a fairly high percentage for the high school level. Her best years are ahead of her for this 6A All Conference 2nd team performer.
Ahidali Dehuelbes (Tucson Magnet, 5’’5″, PG)
Dehuelbes was primed for a breakout AAU season this springDehuelbes is a effective pass first PG with a nice feel for the game. She has demonstrated that she can run a team and displays good leadership abilities. Dehuelbes has some quickness while going downhill and is one of the better PG in the 2021 class in Southern Arizona.
Another sleeper in the class as she led her high school team in scoring, assists and steals. High Academic student who would be a good fit for a high academic D2 or D3 or NAIA program. Will have her in an evaluation session soon as I have not seen her perform since January. Look for an updated scouting report on Dehuelbes.
