Quick hits: 10 of the best 2022 guards on video
If you are a regular reader of Prep Girls Hoops then none of the names we’ll mention here will be new to you. They are some of the elite guards from the Class of 2022, talented athletes whose games we have scrutinized heavily over the past two years. Our purpose today isn’t to go into great depth about any of them, but rather to offer you a short synopsis and a link to their season highlight video. Bookmark this page so you can return later and watch these videos again.
To be clear, we’re not saying these are the 10 best guards of 2022. We’ll save such household names as Amaya Battle Amaya Battle 5'10" | PG Hopkins | 2022 State #29 Nation MN (Hopkins), Mara Braun Mara Braun 5'11" | CG Wayzata | 2022 State #21 Nation MN (Wayzata), Ellie Buzzelle Ellie Buzzelle 5'9" | SG Rogers | 2022 State #60 Nation MN (Rogers), Callin Hake Callin Hake 5'8" | PG Chanhassen | 2022 State #64 Nation MN (Chanhassen) and Desiree Ware Desiree Ware 5'8" | CG Minnetonka | 2022 State MN (Minnetonka) for another day. All 10 of the athletes covered here, however, are scholarship-level prospects – most will end up playing Division 1 basketball – and they represent a wide variety of sizes and shapes and styles of player.

Here we go with some quick hits.
Kaylynn Asberry Kaylynn Asberry 5'5" | PG Como Park | 2022 State MN – Como Park/North Tartan EYBL (#10)
‘KK’ is savvy beyond her years, with elite court vision, a tremendous sense of timing and a very high IQ. She can beat you off the bounce or knock it down from deep, but what she really does best is pass it to her teammates at just the right time in just the right place.
Maddie James Maddie James 6'0" | SG Princeton | 2022 State MN – Princeton/North Tartan EYBL (#12)
A 6’0 guard with a big frame, unlimited range and a whole lot of swagger is a commodity that is in short supply in girls basketball. ‘MJ’ can handle the ball, gets to the rim, and loves to make the big play at the big moment. Her consistency is improving, but when she’s hot there aren’t many better.
Kiani Lockett Kiani Lockett 5'9" | PG Minnetonka | 2022 State MN – DeLaSalle/FBC North (#13)
We haven’t adjusted the rankings since the conclusion of the high school season but when we do Lockett will be moving North because she has earned it. Super smart, very quick and highly skilled, Kiani knows how to run an offense and she can really shoot it, too. Lockett just keeps getting better.
Emma Miller Emma Miller 5'1" | PG STMA | 2022 State MN – St. Michael-Albertville/Fury 2022 UAA (#17)
Emma’s got the fastest feet around. In fact, she does everything fast. Miller is a dynamic guard with a complete set of skills that produces results at both ends of the floor. She’s got terrific handles, unlimited range and a motor that runs at full throttle.
Ronnie Porter Ronnie Porter 5'2" | CG Como Park | 2022 State MN – Como Park/North Tartan EYBL (#18)
If anyone can give Miller a run for her money in the super-fast, uber-quick department it is Porter. She, too, is small but deadly. She can burn you one-on-one or step back and fire it from anywhere. Ronnie competes with passion and fire, and she can play either guard spot at an elite level.
Ellie Colbeck Ellie Colbeck 5'9" | PG Fergus Falls | 2022 State MN – Fergus Falls/West Central United (#19)
If you’re into numbers you’ll be into Ellie. This season she averaged 20.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game while shooting 47% from two-point range, 49% from three and 80% at the line. Colbeck is a dynamic point guard with great handles, excellent court presence and tremendous range.
Sydney Runsewe Sydney Runsewe 5'8" | CG DeLaSalle | 2022 State MN – DeLaSalle/Fury 2021 Yellow (#20)
Sydney had some incredible performances from beyond the arc this season, assembling some of the hottest hot streaks we have ever seen. After missing most of last season with a torn ACL, Runsewe has returned to top form in all aspects of the game. She is a skilled, versatile, mature performer.
Ally Schultz Ally Schultz 6'0" | CG Lakeville South | 2022 State MN – Lakeville South/Stars 2022 Nilsen (#22)
Ally made 77 three-point baskets this year, led her team in scoring, earned South Suburban all-conference honors and improved in virtually every aspect of her game. At 5’11 with a nice frame, Schultz has great size, excellent court presence and the kind of leadership skills coaches crave.
Myra Moorjani Myra Moorjani 5'8" | CG Eden Prairie | 2022 State MN – Eden Prairie/North Tartan EYBL (#27)
Moorjani is an incredible athlete with elite quickness, flat-out speed in the open court, cat-quick reflexes and a thirst for the big moment. Her once-maligned shooting form and ball-handling skills have improved dramatically. This girl can take over a game in the blink of an eye.
Ella Campbell Ella Campbell 5'10" | CG Edina | 2022 State MN – Edina/Stars 2022 Nilsen (#29)
Ella is one of the most subtle star performers in the class. She plays a cerebral game, makes excellent decisions, and seldom gets flustered. Campbell just does so many of the little things so well. She can also shoot the heck out of the basketball. Now 5’10, Ella is a solid scholarship-level prospect.
