These players were among the top overall rebounders in the state, proving to be nearly as successful as their senior counterparts. The players on this list are by-and-large well-developed rebounders who know how to bang bodies inside and pull down plenty of boards.
Marissa Gasaway Marissa Gasaway 6'0" | PF Silver Creek | 2021 State IN , Eastern- Not only did she lead the class of 2021 in rebounding last year, but she was also second overall in the state. She grabbed a tremendous 14 rebounds per game, a number that captures just how great she was on the boards. While she is not as physically imposing as one might expect from an elite rebounder, she is extremely athletic and has tremendous timing, a great package that makes for an excellent rebounder.
Kelsie Woodard Kelsie Woodard 6'1" | C Menifee County | 2021 State KY , Menifee County- Another elite rebounder, Woodard’s 13.2 boards per game was also one of the best numbers in the state regardless of class. While she shares Gasaway’s status as a top rebounder, Woodard has a much different style. She is very physically imposing, possessing the size to bully opponents down low and grab plenty of rebounds in the process.
Destiny Elliott, Prestonburg- Another physically imposing interior player, Elliott combined her physicality with plenty of skills inside for an average of 11.3 rebounds per game. Her rebounding skills were especially impressive considering she has not played basketball for 3 years. With another year of experience under her belt, don’t be surprised if Elliott adds even more skills and takes a massive leap forward next season.
Makena Rush-Owen, McLean County- Yet another physically dominant player, Rush-Owen might be the most imposing player on this list. She pulled down 11.2 rebounds thanks to her tremendous size combined with nice athleticism. She towers over opposing players and has the potential to be even more physically dominant next year.
Amelia Murray Amelia Murray 5'10" | PF Owsley County | 2021 State KY , Owsley County- Breaking the trend of physically imposing players, Murray does not bully players with her size. Instead, she combined good size and athleticism with great speed and technique to pull down 10.8 rebounds per game. While she does not necessarily look like a dominant rebounder, Murray has the ability and skills, not to mention the numbers, to prove she is just that.
Elise Ellison-Coons Elise Ellison-Coons 5'10" | SF Dunbar | 2021 State KY , Paul Laurence Dunbar- Another player who does not look like an outstanding rebounder on the surface, Ellison-Coons possesses much of the same pure ability as Murray. She combined her good size and strong athleticism with a definite toughness inside to pull down 10.6 rebounds per game last year. She battles inside for every missed shot, and has the talent to come down with many of them.
