Picture Allen Iverson in his prime with the Philadelphia 76ers. She is a ball-dominant guard and it’s not a stretch to say that she meant more to her team than any other player in New Jersey this past season.
If she wasn’t setting her teammates up for easy scoring opportunities, the junior point guard was putting the ball in the rim. She is always in attack mode and on those rare plays when she didn’t touch the ball, defenses still focused all of their attention on the 5-foot, 5-inch decoy.
The scouting report to beat Hudson Catholic is simple – shut down Jones. Judging by the fact Hudson Catholic only lost five games all season, that is a task that was easier said than done. She can score from all three levels, knocking down three-pointers and stop-on-a-dime pull ups. Her bread and butter is getting a defender on an island and attacking the basket.
On the defensive side of the court, Jones is a pest. She knows how to cut off angles and is quick enough to keep her opponent in front of her.
The signature moment of her career came in a win against Dickinson last February. She erupted for a career-high 40 points, including the 1,000th point of her career. For the season, she averaged 18.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.8 steals per game. That is the definition of being a stat-sheet stuffer.
Recently she gave a verbal commitment to Villanova University. She chose the Wildcats over Temple and Iona.
