Several prospects were eager to get back on the court and many of the players needed longer than usual to get into the grove, but there were some that got it going. Here are the top performers from the tournament.
Crystal Henderson Crystal Henderson 5'6" | PG Kell | 2023 State GA |5’6″ | CG | Celtics-Henderson | 2023
Henderson is a scorer that can put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways. She showed off a nice floater and mid-range jumper while on the floor. She has advanced ball-handling and uses her dribble moves to create separation for her jumper very well. She also showed that she can take on traps and double teams while staying poised and making good decisions with the ball. She used her dribble to better angles for passes or dribble through defenders while still seeing the floor picking up several assists. Henderson’s shifty style of play makes it hard for defenders to stay in front of her which requires other defenders to commit to help or give up layups. She is a name to know for the next level.
Dayuna Colvin Dayuna Colvin 5'9" | PG North Cobb | 2022 State GA | 5’9″ | PG | Justus League | 2022
Colvin played well for her Justus League group this past weekend. She operated well in her natural position as a point guard. She is a willing distributor with good court vision and passing ability. She found open teammates in transition and the half-court. She showed her offensive scoring ability hitting shots from all three levels. She is a natural athlete and should see her interest rise as coaches get a chance to see her.
Letiya Reeves | 5’8″ | SG | WP Celtics | 2022
Reeves showed a complete all-around game. She scored through contact at the rim, knocked down multiple mid-range jumpers off the bounce, and made a couple from distance. She has a smooth demeanor on the court and shows her competitiveness through her energy. She has a nice strong build and is not afraid to take or give contact. She has good length and uses it well on defense around the perimeter. She is on our watchlist.
Zaria Hurston | 5’11″ | W | WP Celtics | 2022
Hurston is a potential wing that has the body and athleticism to be a good driver and slasher. She does most of her scoring putting the ball on the floor or making timely cuts in the half-court showing her IQ. She plays to her strengths well and using her dribble intentionally. She is long as well and uses her length and leaping ability to crash the boards and grab rebounds. She plays with a lot of aggression. She is sure to begin to pick up interest.
Jamiah Gregory | 5’10″ | PG | Celtics-Henderson | 2023
Gregory has an energy on the floor that lets you know that playing basketball the right way is something she enjoys. She has a natural feel for the floor. She has a very quick first step and uses it along with good jabs to shift and blow by defenders. She is a very willing passer and will find her teammates when penetrating. She did also show some range on her jumper, but she is a downhill guard. She is one prospect to keep an eye on.
Claire Davis Claire Davis 6'1" | SF Cass | 2022 State GA | 6’2″ | F | Justus League | 2022
Davis was good in the post area. She showed some physical play on both ends of the floor. She is a pretty skilled prospect at the position and showed some coast to coast bust-outs after grabbing rebounds. She also knocked in an open three-pointer showing some range on her jumper. She is still developing her strength and technic in the paint, but the mentality to dominate with forceful play around the paint is already there. Look for her stock to continue to rise.
Sylvia Kahoro | 5’6″ | SG | Celtics-Henderson | 2021
Kahoro put on the best shooting display throughout the event. She played with a lot of understanding of the game and constantly found open spots in passing lanes for penetrating guards to kick out to her for catch and shoot jumpers. She also showed good ball-handling and could get to the rim for contested finishes, but she made retreating defenses regret not picking her up at the three-point line where she stopped and pulled multiple times in transition. Kahoro is a confident shooter and shot a high percentage all tournament, converting 5 attempts from behind the arc in each of her games.
Jada Green | 5’11″ | F | Celtics-Henderson | 2023
A strong post presence that provides consistent rim protection. She swatted away multiple attempts using good athleticism and great timing. She is also an aggressive rebounder and has the ability to score inside. I was intrigued by her shooting as she went 3 for 3 from behind the arc in one game. She seemed to have a good form from the three-point line when given time to catch and shoot. Green comes from a family with good height and is likely to grow a couple more inches.
Courtney Davis | 5’2″ | PG | Peak Performance | 2024
This young point guard did not back down from the challenge this past weekend playing up in the 16U division. She was quick and shifty and proved that she could get by defenders and to the rim. She was able to get to make a few tough layup finishes but was also impressive behind the arc. She knocked down 3 attempts. Her shot-making ability will be well-received next year at Fannin County.
Nadya McCown | 5’10″ | SG | WP Celtics | 2021
McCown is a pure shooter that is very efficient with her touches. She hit three or more three-point field goals in multiple games from every spot around the perimeter. She has a good understand of spacing when her teammates make drives. She has the ability to stretch the defense. She also made a few drives after shot fakes and finished at the rim showing that she can put the ball on the floor.
Riley Reeves | 5’6″ | SG | Peak Performance | 2023
Reeves is a true shooting guard. She is dangerous from a distance when left open. She gets her feet set quickly and has good speed on her release. She shot a high percentage going 4 of 6. Although shooting is her strength, she showed a willingness to drive the ball as well and take on contact at the rim to get to the foul line.
Emyah Fortenberry | 5’11″ | C | Peak Performance | 2021
Fortenberry is an smaller interior player that plays the game with a lot of energy. She likes to get the ball around the painted area and use her quickness and strength to get to the rim. She is an aggressive rebounder that crashes the boards hard on both ends of the floor. She has good athleticism and showed that she could stay in front of several guards on the perimeter throughout her games.
