This is a skill that is becoming more and more important in basketball, to the point that even 3 point specialists are viewed as some of the most valuable players on the team. These players have all proven themselves as 3 point shooters, making them increasing lethal offensive weapons.
Jerrica Thacker, Jenkins- One of the top shooters in the state last season, it should not be a surprise to see Thacker’s name atop this list. She showed an ability to catch fire from 3, including a 61 point performance that included a school-record 10 made 3’s. All told she averaged 3.7 makes from deep per game. If she can improve her consistency, Thacker can be one of the state’s top players next season.
Samantha Cornelison, Madison Southern- Perhaps one of the more underrated players in the state, Cornelison had a strong junior season, being named to a stacked all 11th region team. A big part of her game is her 3 point shooting, as evidenced by the 2.7 3’s she averaged per game on 34.1% shooting. Look for her to capitalize on a strong junior season by taking another step forward next year, including even better shooting from deep.
Harley Paynter Harley Paynter 5'7" | CG Boyd County | 2021 State KY , Boyd County- One of the top returning players in the state, it’s no surprise to see the do-it-all Paynter make this list. She knocked down 2.6 shots per game from beyond the arc with a great 38% efficiency. While 3 point shooting is not as much of a focus for her as it is for other players here, she can still do it extremely well.
Brynna Blackburn, South Oldham- Another strong 3 point shooter, Blackburn has proven the value of the 3 point shot in today’s game. Despite putting up great stats in other departments, Blackburn’s 2.5 3’s per game on strong 35.5% shooting made her a valuable commodity. In fact, IU Southern coach Robin Farris first cited Blackburn’s shooting from deep when announcing Blackburn’s commitment, clearly showing how important the skill is to coaches on all levels.
