What are the stipulations? None, really. Regardless of class and regardless of positions, what’s our top 10?
For this article, Central Kentucky is defined as regions 8, 10, 11 and just the northern part of 12.
#1 Brooklynn Miles Brooklynn Miles 5'6" | PG Franklin County | 2021 State #48 Nation KY , Franklin County (2021) – Likely the top prospect in the state regardless of class, Miles has offers from all over the country and is a top recruit nationally. She’s a talented offensive player but her defense is what will get her on the court early in college. She’s the favorite for 2021 Miss Basketball.
#2 Amiya Jenkins Amiya Jenkins 5'10" | SF Anderson County | 2022 State KY , Anderson County (2022) – Another big recruit, Amiya started her career at Henry Clay before transferring before her Sophomore season. She’s long and athletic with a bushel of scholarship offers and high upside. She’s likely the front runner for Miss Basketball in the 2022 season.
#3 Timberlynn Yeast Timberlynn Yeast 5'8" | SF Mercer County | 2023 State KY , Mercer County (2023) – Another big time talent in the area, Timberlynn is a gifted wing scorer who is only going to keep getting better over the next 3 years. Yeast has a D1 offer already and should rack up dozens more over the next few seasons.
#4 Elise Ellison-Coons Elise Ellison-Coons 5'10" | SF Dunbar | 2021 State KY , Dunbar (2021) – A versatile wing forward who can score inside and out. Elise made big strides in her game over the last year and has developed into a knockdown shooter in addition to her abilities as a slasher. A do it all player, she’s the best prospect in Lexington by a wide margin.
#5 Brianna Byars Brianna Byars 5'11" | PF George Rogers Clark | 2023 State KY , George Rogers Clark (2023) – Only a Sophomore, Byars is a big, physical post whose game is evolving to the point she will eventually be a stretch 4 or face up 5. GRC is loaded for the next few seasons and Brianna is one to track as a top player in the entire 2023 class statewide.
#6 Patience Laster Patience Laster 5'10" | PF Franklin County | 2022 State KY , Franklin County (2022) – Another big post player, Laster is a finisher who thrives off the drive and dish ability of her teammates. Her college ceiling will be limited by her athleticism but she’s a throwback low block scorer who can get a bucket, especially against a single defender.
#7 Riley Neal Riley Neal 5'11" | SF North Oldham | 2022 State KY , North Oldham (2022) – Riley went from an unknown (to us) to one of the top scorers in the state last season. A lights out shooter with good positional size and the ability to score in bunches, Neal has a very bright future and will be one of the best players in the 8th region over the next few seasons.
#8 Tyra Flowers Tyra Flowers 5'10" | SF George Rogers Clark | 2022 State KY , George Rogers Clark (2022) – Another versatile forward for the Lady Cards, Flowers and Byars make a formidable front line that will be hard to match for the 10th region in the next couple of seasons. Flowers doesn’t yet have a ton of stretch in her game but her ceiling is to be a really good combo forward who can put the ball on the floor.
#9 Hayden Barrier Hayden Barrier 5'6" | SG Montgomery County | 2024 State KY , Montgomery County (2024) – The lone Freshman on the list, Hayden is one of the top scorers in the 2024 class and going into the season will be one of the best players in the 10th region. Her upside is high thanks to her scoring and it will be interesting to see how athletic she ends up by the time she’s done growing.
#10 Kenady Tompkins Kenady Tompkins 6'0" | SG Scott County | 2021 State KY , Scott County (2021) – Scott County is expecting a drop off from the tremendous run they’ve had in recent years but Tompkins will do everything in her power to stop that backslide. She’s a tough forward who is going to need to do a little bit of everything for the Lady Cards this season to maintain their status among the elite programs in Kentucky.
