Details Regarding June Rankings Updates
This unfortunate pandemic we are all experiencing put several things in our lives on hold. One of those items, which is more specific to a majority of our PGH Indiana audience, would have been the attendance of players, coaches, parents, fans, and evaluators at a number of Spring grassroots tournaments, showcases, and all-star games taking place throughout March, April, May, and early June. As it relates to Prep Girls Hoops Indiana, and more specifically to our rankings, we follow a detailed and thorough calendar to release updated rankings four times per year…in mid to late-March, mid to late-June, mid to late-September, and mid to late-December…with a combination of edits and expansions at different times throughout that calendar.
Since our most recent updates were in mid to late-March, and since prospects haven’t been able to show their improvements and growth in front of an audience much bigger than their family in the driveway (with the exception of a handful of grassroots team workouts in recent days), we have decided that it wouldn’t be fair or valid to move kids around throughout our lists just so you have something new to view. Instead, we will look to only make minor “housekeeping” adjustments to our lists at this time. What does that mean, specifically? Well, I have outlined what will happen with each of five graduating classes (2020-2024) below.
THE CLASS OF 2020
Every year the end of June marks the end of content for the outgoing graduating class. Yes, their articles will be archived and can be found through our search engine in the upper right-hand corner of any page (look for the magnifying glass), and yes, their final rankings will be visible in our archived rankings section, but nothing more will be updated after that time, and the links to the 2020 rankings will be moved off our main page and into those respective archives.
THE CLASS OF 2021
The Class of 2021 currently shows 204 prospects ranked. Those prospects will remain in the exact same order, #1 through #204, until at least September’s update at the earliest, with two exceptions…if someone has moved to another state, or if someone has contacted us and given up basketball altogether, they will be removed entirely from the list and the remaining girls behind her will subsequently move up a spot.
June is also a time where we annually expand the Senior-to-be class to 225 names. With 204 prospects currently ranked, we will be adding 21 new names to our Class of 2021 rankings. Those 21 new prospects will be added to the end of the list. They will be arranged in order, #205 through #225, even if we feel like #205 Jane Doe is a better prospect than 150 girls in front of her. Without competitive basketball having been played the last three months, we don’t feel like it’s fair to drop girls down the list while moving someone new into the existing group of 204.
CLASS OF 2022
The Class of 2022 currently shows 161 prospects ranked. Those prospects will remain in the exact same order, #1 through #161, until at least September’s update at the earliest, with two exceptions…if someone has moved to another state, or if someone has contacted us and given up basketball altogether, they will be removed entirely from the list and the remaining girls behind her will subsequently move up a spot.
June is also a time where we annually expand the Junior-to-be class to 175 names. With 161 prospects currently ranked, we will be adding 14 new names to our Class of 2022 rankings. Those 14 new prospects will be added to the end of the list. They will be arranged in order, #162 through #175, even if we feel like #162 Jane Doe is a better prospect than 100 girls in front of her. Without competitive basketball having been played the last three months, we don’t feel like it’s fair to drop girls down the list while moving someone new into the existing group of 161.
CLASS OF 2023
The Class of 2023 currently shows 123 prospects listed. 50 prospects are ranked in a true Top-50, while 73 additional prospects are listed alphabetically in a “Watch List”. The prospects ranked in the Top-50 will remain in the exact same order, #1 through #50, until at least September’s update at the earliest, with two exceptions…if someone has moved to another state, or if someone has contacted us and given up basketball altogether, they will be removed entirely from the list and the remaining girls behind her will subsequently move up a spot.
June is also a time where we annually eliminate the Sophomore-to-be “Watch List” and create a true Top-100 list for that specific class. With 123 prospects currently listed in 2023, this is the one class where we will need to unfortunately remove 23 prospects in order to get to a true Top-100. The Class of 2023 has proven to be very strong statewide thus far, so last year when we were collecting names, we were well over 50 on our initial “Watch List”, and that list continued to grow all year. In September we will expand the Class of 2023’s Top-100 to a Top-125, so several of those removed prospects will find themselves back in the rankings in short time. As for the 50 prospects we choose to round out the Top-100 list, they will be arranged in order, #51 through #100, even if we feel like #51 Jane Doe is a better prospect than 25 girls in front of her. Without competitive basketball having been played the last three months, we don’t feel like it’s fair to drop girls down the list while moving someone new into the existing Top-50.
CLASS OF 2024
Rankings for the Class of 2024 do not currently appear on Prep Girls Hoops Indiana at this time. However, with the Class of 2020 exiting at the end of the month, it allows us to add the Class of 2024 during June. We will initially approach this with a “Watch List” of approximately 40-50 young ladies arranged alphabetically by last name. Look for the initial 2024 “Watch List” to appear sometime in the next two to three weeks.
