Prep Hoops New England is working on covering all six states in the region, but for now, we want to give you a preview of some of the players who play their high school hoops outside of Massachusetts. There are not necessarily the five best players, but these are a smattering of players I’ve seen play in person myself.
Ava Owens ’21 St. Andrew’s/Rivals – Owens and Aaliyah Forman (see below) transferred from New Hampshire powerhouse Bishop Guertin to St. Andrew’s following their sophomores years. They both re-classified at the Rhode Island school, and each finished up their first season at St. Andrew’s last season. The 5-foot-11 Owens is a fantastic athlete with an unrelenting motor. While she didn’t earn All-NEPSAC honors this past season, Owens picked up a scholarship offer from Holy Cross after averaging 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals per game.
Aaliyah Forman ’21 St. Andrew’s/Rivals – Forman joined Owens in jumping from Bishop Guertin to St. Andrew’s, and is a similar player to her St. Andrew’s running mate. Also 5-foot-11, Forman is a do-it-all type of player. She has offers from UMass-Lowell and New Hampshire and should be a lock for All-NEPSAC honors next season.

Caroline Lau ’22 St. Luke’s School/NY Exodus – The only player on this list to suit up for an EYBL AAU squad, the 5-foot-9 Lau is an elite scorer. Lau earned All-NEPSAC Class B honors after her sophomore season, and eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark last winter. Lau averaged 16.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game for St. Luke’s, who advanced to the NEPSAC Class B title game. She has offers from Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Colombia, Michigan, North Carolina, Boston College and Northwestern.

Alyssa Moreland ’22 Tilton/MCW Starz – In her return from an ACL tear, the averaged 14.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game en route to NEPSAC Class A Player of the Year Honors. The 5-foot-11 forward also led her squad to the Class A title. Moreland, who re-classed after her freshman year at Beverly High School, has an offer from New Hampshire.
Oluchi Okananwa ’23 New Hampton/Rivals – A Boston Globe All-Scholastic as a freshman at Peabody High School, Okananwa re-classed at New Hampton and continued a torrid start to her high school career, culminating with All-NEPSAC Class AA honors. The 5-foot-9 guard makes per presence felt all over the court, especially on the defensive end. Her length and ability to defend all five positions makes her a potential high-major player. Okananwa averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals per game.
