Continue ReadingThis past weekend I made my way to Noblesville once again, but this time it was to spend Saturday at the Girls Indiana Summer Classic, hosted by Indiana Elite and USA Youth Hoops. Sunday I turned my car in the other direction and headed to Plymouth, Indiana, for the LBI Michigan Jamboree, co-hosted by Lady Ballers Insider and Always 100 . Both events showcased some talented young ladies, and it was a great opportunity for me to get eyes on several teams for the first time this Summer. Below is a look at the 17U Indiana teams I was able to catch over the two-day weekend. If a team you follow was there and I didn’t get the opportunity to see them, I will seek them out in the next few weeks.
(There will be another article posted on PGH Michigan, but it will be limited to Michigan prospects I evaluated. There were several Michigan teams in Plymouth.)
Always 100
Black – Wright
Larry Wright always seems to have a couple of teams each season, and this year is no different. This 17U group has a nice mixture of small college prospects, with several of them already being committed to schools. One promising youngster playing “up” with this group is 5-10 wing

Columbia City | 2022

IN
(2022) of Columbia City. She is a wiry strong, fluid, and skillful forward who can really shoot the basketball. She understands how to move without the ball, she hustles and does a lot of the little things, plus she’s willing to play in the mid-post and rebound at times as well. 5-5 guard

(2021) of Warsaw looked solid throughout the day. She was as quick and explosive as I’ve seen her, plus she always plays with an aggressive, feisty energy. 5-10 wing

Northridge | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Northridge is drawing the eyes of several colleges already. She is extremely long, fluidly athletic, and while she’s still a bit thin, she is playing much stronger and more aggressively. She can slash to the basket or play around the perimeter equally well. I also felt like 5-4 point guard
Grace Sullivan

(2021) of Fort Wayne Carroll each did a nice job of controlling tempo and distributing the ball. Sullivan has already committed to Ferris State University, while Parrett has pledged to the nearby University of Saint Francis.
Always 100
Elite – Chamble
The flagship team in the
Always 100
program had a solid showing in Plymouth on Sunday. I felt like the backcourt of 5-8 guard

Fort Wayne South Side | 2022
State
IN
(2022) of Fort Wayne South Side was strong. Rasheed was aggressive shooting/scoring it all day, and she is just so powerful attacking the basket. She has already committed to the University of Akron. Smith is a strong, low-to-the-ground, but quick/fast/explosive point guard with a yo-yo handle. She gets defenders off-balance with ease, then gets into the paint and collapses defenses. Add to that 5-7 guard
Moira McGinley

Bishop Chatard | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Bishop Chatard, and it’s a well-balanced group. McGinley had an outstanding Winter, she’s a very nice athlete with speed and a great motor, plus her skillset has improved over the years and she is shooting the ball consistently. 6-3 post

(2021) of Fort Wayne South Side to patrol the paint. Shoup-Hill has good size and strength, but it’s her ability to step out and knock down shots that makes her most dangerous. She has already committed to the University of Dayton. Woodson is one of the more overlooked prospects in the state. She is so strong, athletic, and productive on the glass, I feel like Youngstown State University got a steal with her commitment.
Always 100
Pressure
This
Always 100
squad is kind of the gritty, tough, feisty, (enter your adjective here) group. They play extremely hard and prove you don’t win games on paper. 5-10 power forward

Richmond | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Richmond has picked up a great deal of small college interest over the last few weeks. She has great length, she’s a nice North/South athlete, and she’s a productive rebounder and scorer inside of 12-feet. 5-7 wing

Carroll (Fort Wayne) | 2021

(2021) of Fort Wayne Carroll is a unique matchup. She is built very strong, like a power player, but she possesses good ball skill and the ability to makes shots around the perimeter. 5-7 guard

Fort Wayne Dwenger | 2021

, a 5-6 combo guard, is another really nice, feisty, tough-nosed athlete. She does a variety of things skillfully, and she always competes. This group will certainly upset a few “favored” teams throughout this Summer, as they will outplay most teams in the hustle and effort categories.
Indiana Elite – Mead
This Indiana Elite group is an interesting mix of prospects from all different parts of the state. Maybe the biggest name on the statewide level is 5-9 forward

Greenwood Christian | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Greenwood Christian. She is a wiry strong, athletic, energetic, and versatile player. She plays a lot in the post for her high school team and dominates that competition, but in the Summers she shows off her ability to play around the perimeter. She is incredibly productive wherever she plays. 5-3 guard Johwen McKim (2022) of Eastbrook is a flat out athlete. She has some strength at her size, but she can run, jump, and change directions with most of the girls she’ll go up against this Summer. She is a ball of energy, she does possess solid skill as well, but as soon as she figures out how to change speeds better, I think her game will move to another level. I think 5-7 guard

Munster | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Munster is kind of a throw-back type of guard. She plays at a steady pace, she has some strength, a balanced skillset, and she can play either guard spot depending on what is needed. I was also intrigued by 6-0 post Lily Martin (2021) of Faith Christian. She has a solid, wiry strong frame, she’s a fairly fluid athlete for a “big”, and she plays with a good motor. I would like to see her do more things offensively, but she could become a nice small college prospect.
Indiana Elite South – Kent
When Southern Indiana girls choose to play together in the Summers, they are fun to watch. Styles of basketball are certainly regional, and their brand is very tough-nosed, skillful, and hard-working. I was most impressed with 5-9 wing

Brownstown Central | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Brownstown Central. She was much more explosive and athletic than I remember. She has an athletic frame, good all-around skill, and the ability to even handle it some in transition and initiate the offense. She’s a nice “sleeper” who I think could/should draw some quality college interest. 5-7 combo guard

Jennings County | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Jennings County is another nice player from down South. She is a fairly strong, athletic, accurate shooter with range. She can handle it and run offense, she has a nice poise/savvy to her game, but I really like her ability to score the ball. I think 5-11 post

Scottsburg | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Scottsburg is another good one. She is strong, physical, and aggressive, she’s a deceptive athlete, plus she has good hands and a soft touch to about 15-feet. I got my first look at 5-9 forward

Seymour | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Seymour, after she put together a really nice Winter this past season. She is a strong power forward, a hard-working athlete, and she can play inside or take care of the ball around the perimeter. This is just a fun group to watch play together.
Shelby Sting Black – Mills
It’s not often you see a team built on a collection of girls from one county that only has five schools in it, but that’s what this Sting team is and has been over the years. On top of that, they have exactly three girls from 2021, three from 2022, and three from 2023, and they competed all afternoon Saturday. I was really impressed with my first look at 5-7 guard

Shelbyville | 2023
State
IN
(2023) from Shelbyville. The Golden Bears have been thirsting for success, and she might be the player to get them there. The multisport star is very athletic in all directions, she has a solid frame with some length, and she plays with a good motor. She can handle it a little, but she’s best when she’s looking to shoot/score the ball. I also like her presence at the defensive end of the floor. 5-10 post Madison Phares (2022) of Shelbyville also had a nice outing. She is strong and physical inside, but she also has good hands, touch to 15-feet, and she plays with a tremendous motor. 5-7 forward

Triton Central | 2023
State
IN
(2023) of Triton Central plays like you’d expect a coach’s daughter to. She is strong and physical, she is very tough-nosed, but she also displays skill in the mid-post and around the perimeter. Also standing out to me was 5-2 point guard Raegan Kleine (2023) of Morristown. She isn’t very tall, but she has some strength at her size, she’s quick/fast, and she plays with quiet toughness/confidence. She took care of the ball and was a pest at the defensive end of the floor.
Time2Ball – Jordan
After going by the name Motivational Movements for a year, Time2Ball has a couple of teams this season, and this 17U group is intriguing. 5-10 wing

Northfield | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Northfield has a great deal of upside and is one of the state’s best hidden talents. She is long, wiry strong, and she has nice ball skills and playmaking ability. She plays sort of a point forward position, plus she has a nice looking stroke from the perimeter. She has already given a verbal commitment to Trine University. High school teammate

(2021), a 5-9 wing, is also a Trine University commit and another nice talent who few people know. She has good length, she’s bouncy, and she can score the ball at all three levels, but she’s best attacking the basket. I thought 5-10 forward

Fort Wayne Luers | 2021
State
IN
(2021) of Bishop Luers had a nice game when I saw them. She looked a little taller, she’s a strong forward, but she also has really nice touch from the perimeter. I think she can be a really nice small college stretch forward because of her ability to bury shots. Then there’s 5-10 power forward

Fort Wayne Carroll | 2021
IN
(2021) of Fort Wayne Carroll. She plays with one of the best motors in the state, she’s quietly tough-nosed, very physical, but she plays with good balance and often outplays girls who are taller/longer/bouncier because she understands leverage well.
