Michigan once again proved that it can be considered a top notch state when it comes to producing basketball talent. There are a lot of high level prospects in the state, and the number of ranked players should do nothing but increase in time. We will look at the 2022 prospects from Michigan that are ranked nationally by Prep Girls Hoops, as well as a few to be on the look out for.
#20
Ruby Whitehorn Ruby Whitehorn 6'0" | PG Detroit Edison | 2022 State #20 Nation MI (SG, Detroit Edison)
The fact that she’s high on the list is no surprise. There aren’t many, if any, wings that are more equipped to score as Whitehorn. She’s an excellent finisher in transition and can pull up on a dime and shoot off the dribble. If anything, I personally would rank her higher. Detroit Edison has a history of success and we’ve seen their players excel at the next level as well.
#33
Mya Petticord Mya Petticord 5'9" | PG Arbor Prep | 2022 State #33 Nation MI (PG, Arbor Prep)
Petticord is another obvious choice to be ranked high in the class of 2022. She’s quick and slick with the ball in her hands. This helps Petticord be a true playmaker. These are skills that will translate to the next level. Much like Whitehorn, I probably would rank Petticord even higher.
#63
Abbey Kimball Abbey Kimball 5'10" | PG Grand Rapids West Catholic | 2022 State #63 Nation MI (CG, West Catholic)
Kimball has all the tools to be a big time recruit. Her combination of length, ball skills, and basketball IQ make her a very unique prospect. She is committed to Michigan State University.
#69
Rakiyah Beal Rakiyah Beal 5'11" | SF Hamtramck | 2022 State #69 Nation MI (SF, Detroit Edison)
Beal is another disciplined athlete from Detroit Edison. She’s exceptional in filling a wing in transition. I believe that Beal was in line for a HUGE summer before the lockdown ensued.
#71
Theryn Hallock Theryn Hallock 5'9" | SG Forest Hills Central | 2022 State #71 Nation MI (PG, Forest Hills Central)
Hallock is another Michigan State University commit. With Hallock and Kimball, MSU has their top 100 backcourt inked for years to come. Hallock scores and distributes with efficiency.
BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR:
Madisen Wardell Madisen Wardell 6'0" | PF Detroit Edison | 2022 State MI (PF, Detroit Edison)
I think this long forward has loads of upside.
Alecsis Smith Alecsis Smith 6'2" | C Bay City Central | 2022 State MI (F/C, Bay City Central)
She’s a living breathing double-double.
Jaci Tubergen Jaci Tubergen SG Hudsonville | 2022 State MI (SG, Hudsonville)
Remember this name, because there aren’t many more complete perimeter players.
