It sometimes can be difficult to take notice of all the proficient players, and I believe all should be recognized to a certain extent. Scoring is one of the most important aspects of basketball, and the ability to score should be identified.
Listed below are 5 individuals across the state of California who should be perceived as some of the most talented scorers in the state:
Chloe Briggs Chloe Briggs 6'0" | SF Ontario Christian HS | 2023 State CA – (2023), Fr, 5”10′, G, #24, Ontario Christian High (Ontario, CA)
Chloe Briggs Chloe Briggs 6'0" | SF Ontario Christian HS | 2023 State CA is the definition of an all-around great basketball player. Her basketball IQ is out of this world and she has a dominant presence on the court. Briggs can be really aggressive when she needs to be, but also very nimble. As a coach, you want someone who is combative but performs ever so swiftly while doing it. Briggs creates opportunities for herself through her impressive ball-handling. Briggs is able to create space for herself in such an agile way that you won’t even know it’s coming. Don’t forget the fact that she has one of the most superb shooting techniques that I have ever seen, she knows her shooting range. I’ll give you a hint, she can drain a 3 from anywhere on the floor. Chloe Briggs Chloe Briggs 6'0" | SF Ontario Christian HS | 2023 State CA is only a freshman and is #4 on the leaderboard for PPG in the Nation(2019-2020), and is ranked #1 for scoring in California. She scores 33.8 PPG, has 6.4 APG and achieves 12.6 RPG. I know without a doubt that Chloe will be getting multiple offers in the upcoming years, and I am excited to see Brigg’s development as she gets older.
Jazmine Soto Jazmine Soto 5'4" | PG Strathmore | 2021 State CA – (2021), Jr, PG & SG, 5”4′, #2, Strathmore High School (Strathmore, CA)
Jazmine Soto Jazmine Soto 5'4" | PG Strathmore | 2021 State CA has a lot to offer on the basketball court. She dominates offensively and makes scoring look too easy. Soto is quite often making good decisions with the ball and definitely has a high basketball IQ. Her shooting abilities are phenomenal, and it shows. She is Tulare County’s leading scorer and is the #13 top scorer throughout the Nation. She is consistently working on the court, and always moving off the ball. Soto is one of the most active players on the court, and you can tell she puts in the work outside of games. With 26.3 PPG and 5.7 SPG, you can see that Jazmine is a very hard-worker that puts in a lot of effort into her game. Jazmine is a player to look out for during her senior season, and I only see her improving from here.
Mackenzie Curtis- (2021), Jr, SG, 5”10′, #21, El Capitan High School (Lakeside, CA), EBO San Diego
Mackenzie is certainly one of a kid. Fairly recently she committed to the University of New Mexico to play basketball and rightfully deserves it. I admire her admiration for the game, and you can tell she has a passion for the sport when she plays. There is no stopping her killer jump shot. She has a very quick release, can pull up from anywhere on the court. Curtis dominates the defensive end, she is physical, and her boxing out abilities is something that is very remarkable. One thing to note is that she has a great vision of the court, she is always looking for more opportunities to score. Even better, she is not only creating opportunities for herself, but for her teammates as well. Curtis is a very unselfish player, and that is something coaches should be recognizing. Her touch around the basket is superb, and statistics demonstrate that. With 22.2 PPG and 9.5 RPG, Mackenzie remains a very dominant player on the court. I am looking forward to watching her Senior year season, and her upcoming college career with the Lobo Nation.
Mya Blake Mya Blake 5'4" | PG Bear Creek | 2021 State CA – (2021), Jr, PG, 5”4′, #10, Edison High School (Stockton, CA)
Mya Blake Mya Blake 5'4" | PG Bear Creek | 2021 State CA is a high-intensity player, that makes her existence well-known on the court. She is quick, physical, and aggressive. She is jam-packed with energy throughout the whole game. She is constantly moving on and off the ball and is a very strong attacking player. When Mya has a fast break, she goes full-speed, making her a difficult player to defend. Blake has a knack for stealing the ball, she possesses grit and guts. Mya has no issue sharing the ball with her teammates and she passes like a superstar. Blake currently averages 22.5 PPG, 4.1 SPG, and 49 3PM with a 33% 3P%. She has only played for Edison High School for one season (2019-2020) and has already made her mark. Mya Blake Mya Blake 5'4" | PG Bear Creek | 2021 State CA is not a player you should miss out on. I’m looking forward to seeing her during her final high school season.
Breya Cunningham Breya Cunningham 6'3" | C La Jolla Country Day | 2023 State #3 Nation CA -(2023), Fr, F & C, 6”3′, #25, La Jolla Country Day High School (La Jolla, CA)
If you want to talk about talented up and coming players, Breya Cunningham Breya Cunningham 6'3" | C La Jolla Country Day | 2023 State #3 Nation CA is not a player that should be left out. With a magnificent freshman season, she is a player that has definitely distinguished oneself greatly. Alongside stellar point guard Te-Hina Paopao, she helped her team become the #1 team in CA. She is very talented, and can only improve from here on out. Breya has great hands with the ball, and generally great ball control. Her rebounding abilities our out of this world, and is an all-around fantastic defender. Her physicality on the block is very intense and is absolutely one of the most powerful players on the court. During the 2019-2020 season, she averaged 17.3 PPG and 11.8 RPG. Breya has a phenomenal inside game, but I guarantee she will work on her outside game during the offseason. Alongside her extraordinary freshman season, she was selected as the Cal-Hi Sports Player of the year for the Freshman category. I can see Breya growing into an amazing all-around player and athlete. There are big things in store for Breya Cunningham Breya Cunningham 6'3" | C La Jolla Country Day | 2023 State #3 Nation CA , and coaches should keep an eye out for this freshman.
