It’s not that easy, you have to put in the work as well as comprehend what’s being taught so it’s no surprise, at least to me, that I’d be highlighting Houston United before She’s Ballin Extravaganza as they’re bringing six teams to San Antonio from Houston and this will be the final year I get to take a high school picture of 2021 Chuck stars Tymberlin Criswell Tymberlin Criswell 5'8" | CG The Village | 2021 State TX and Kamari Portalis Kamari Portalis 5'7" | PG Magnolia West | 2021 State TX together, a ritual that started six years ago, how ironic is that number and I’ll use the PHOTO BOMBED photo with Kyndall Hunter Kyndall Hunter 5'8" | SG Cypress Creek | 2021 State #23 Nation TX lol
I haven’t seen Beaumont United players Takiera Boudreaux or Cameron Dill but I love seafood and I’m hearing DEAL being floated around, you probably won’t catch that as well as Spring star Kyndall Aryo springing into action but I’m ready for the excitement and let me drop something on SIX I have seen, remember I have a SIXTH sense on evaluating talent so here we go and I’ll be yelling “What The Chuck” when I see head coach and Houston United director Chuck McCowan tomorrow
Tymberlin Criswell Tymberlin Criswell 5'8" | CG The Village | 2021 State TX (Village School)
Criswell is more of a 2 yet she had to step in and run the 1 for her high school team and remember the game starts at the one and her team won one, a state championship TAPPS 6A. Criswell attacks from every angle, great body control and finishes strong but she also has a jumper and her ability to elevate over defenders to nail the mid to long-range makes her a threat, always
Kamari Portalis Kamari Portalis 5'7" | PG Magnolia West | 2021 State TX (Magnolia West)
Portalis showed me something in the 6th grade that usually sticks with me and that’s poise under pressure and performing in the clutch. She’s only enhanced that, as well as her shooting, she’s one of the top long-range shooters in the area, her midrange is sold but so is her game on both ends of the court not to leave out her handling of the ball as well as court vision
Asia Broughton Asia Broughton 6'1" | PF Cypress Ridge | 2021 State TX (Cy Ridge)
Broughton went from a back to basket player to simply a terror not only on the inside but in the open court and watching her attack the basket relentlessly in the open court at last seasons Summer Elite Showcase on a different team showed me how she has worked hard on elevating her game. College ready body, as well as strength, had me add BEAST to her performance
Riyah Francis (Cy Creek)
Francis has steadily improved since I first saw her back in the 6th grade and when you add a growth spurt as well as mass, there’s no surprise that she played a key role in her high school team making it to the state championship final (UIL 6A). She’ll play an even bigger role as a senior, her rebounding and scoring ability will come in handy for my Region 3 early favorite next season
Hallen Harris (Cy Creek)
Harris has also been on my radar before high school and her progression has definitely shown on the court. She’s athletic and does what I love to see, play the passing lane yet she also plays within herself and does so many things that may not show up in the box score but what I also know as that she too will play a big part in Creek’s third trip to state in four seasons, should they make it
Payton Grogan (Westside)
Grogan is solid, I caught her at the SBISD Invitational with the Wolves, a team my daughter helped put on the map a few years ago and what I enjoyed about Grogan was she is a “never takes a play off, type of player” and that mindset helped them reach the playoffs. High energy guards are always pluses, remember that and I’m getting AMPED with anticipation
