Their school size may be small. Some may even be shorter than a lot of the top prospects. Still, that doesn’t mean that these small school stars don’t have what it takes to succeed at the college level. There are ballers to be found all over Oklahoma and at every level, if you just know where to look. At Prep Girls, we pride ourselves on looking everywhere.
Jena Bay | 5-10 G/F | Shattuck | 2022 | @jenabay_ | Highlights
Tegan Jones | 5-3 G | Shattuck | 2021 | Highlights
Shattuck is a Class A school with a couple of big-time scorers. Bay and Jones finished the season averaging 18.9 and 17.5 points per game respectively. Bay is a great dribbler with a very quick three-point shot. She has great range and plenty of moves to score inside or outside. Jones may be undersized, but her quickness makes up for a lot. Her threat as a three-point shooter draws defenders out to the perimeter where she uses a quick first step to blow by them and finish at the basket. With these two at the helm, Shattuck is a team to watch over the next few years.
Parker Stevenson | 5-6 G | Bethel | 2023 | Highlights
Stevenson is absolutely vicious on the defensive end. She is very fast and very smart. She uses her quickness to rack up the steals while guarding the opposing team’s point guard one-on-one. She has a smooth stroke from three, but is definitely not just a shooter. She gets her teammates involved at every opportunity. Last season she averaged just under 14 points per game, while shooting 43.9% from the field. Parker Stevenson is one to keep an eye on over the next few seasons.
Grace Lena | 6-1 C | Varnum | 2021 | Highlights
Varnum is a very small Class B school with a very big-time athlete in the post. Lena is all over the place defensively. She can step out and guard any player or head to the post and use her outstanding size to block almost every shot she sees. Lena averaged 8.5 rebounds per game last season and a whopping 3.9 steals. Her 12.8 points per game weren’t anything to sneeze at either. She runs the court well and is quick in transition. She is the heart of her team and should have a big senior season ahead of her – hopefully with plenty of college coaches in attendance.
Kylie Gore | 5-10 F | Sieling | 2022 | Highlights
Gore is a surprisingly good on-ball defender for someone her size. Though she plays the three most of the time, she is able to guard the guards or the inside as needed. She has very good instincts and is quick to help She runs the court very well, not just for someone her size. She is a force to be reckoned with. She averaged just 6.5 points per game, but I would expect that to double by graduation. With age comes basketball wisdom and Gore is going to be a tremendous player when all is said and done.
