From middle schoolers to professional players, the 252 area code and Eastern NC as a whole has some excellent women’s basketball at all levels. Right now, we’re going to take a look at some of the middle and high school prospects who stood out at this very competitive open run.
Journee McDaniel Journee McDaniel 6'0" | CG Farmville Central | 2022 State NC (New Bern guard, 2022)
It was more of the usual from rising junior guard Journee McDaniel Journee McDaniel 6'0" | CG Farmville Central | 2022 State NC who is one of the best 2022 prospects in the southeast (number nine in the Prep Girls Hoops NC 2022 rankings). She created shots for herself and her teammates, attacked the basket with aggression, rebounded well, and showed her prowess from long distance. McDaniel is sure to have a big junior year which should help her recruitment pick up even more than it already has.
Cayln Baker (Farmville Central guard, 2023)
Another prospect that showed off her shot creating ability was rising sophomore guard Cayln Baker. She played with a lot of energy and used her ball handling skills to create separation against anyone that guarded her. After having an excellent freshman season at Farmville Central, Baker should see more success this year as a knockdown three point shooter and facilitator. She’ll be a key piece to a team that should be one of, if not the, favorite to win the 2-A state championship once again.
Jamaria Freeman (Forest Hills MS, 2025 guard)
A standout middle school prospect at the Dungeon Run was rising eighth grader Jamaria Freeman. She was excellent throughout the run and showed a lot of confidence going against some of the best high school and college players in the 252 area code. Freeman showed great shooting touch along with excellent passing and finishing through traffic. Get familiar with this 2025 prospect out of Wilson, NC because she has a chance to be really special.
