These rising juniors are halfway through their college career, and all are receiving Division 1 offers and interest.
Here’s a look at the top players in the Massachusetts class of 2022:
No. 5: Olivia Quinn, Franklin/Mass Mavericks
No one made a quantum leap from her freshman to sophomore year quite like Quinn did. She played varsity her first year, but blossomed into a surefire Division 1 prospect as a sophomore, scoring with ease at all three levels. The 6-foot guard averaged 15.2 points per game, earning Hockomock League Underclassman of the Year honors. Quinn served as the outside compliment to 6-foot-4 George Washington bound senior center Ali Brigham. As an upperclassman, she’ll be relied on to do it all.
No. 4: Kayana Armbrister, Fenway/Bay State Jaguars
It’s likely that Armbrister is the most athletic player in the state of Massachusetts regardless of class. The 6-foot forward can touch the rim with ease. Armbrister’s rebounding and shot blocking ability make her a vaunted inside force at the high school level, but her ball handling and outside game need improvement for a chance at playing in a top-tier Division 1 conference. Based on her athleticism alone, Armbrister is an intriguing prospect. At times, she demonstrated a decent outside shot, but did not show enough to prove it is a college-ready weapon. Armbrister is a player just oozing with potential. She recently picked up offers from Florida Atlantic, URI, UMass, UMass-Lowell and Hartford.
No. 3: Kayla Lezama, Nobles/ New England Crusaders
Don’t be shocked if Lezama moves up when we re-rank the Massachusetts class of 2022 later this year. She missed the entirety of last season with a significant knee injury, but is a high-major prospect nonetheless. The 5-foot-10 guard earned All-NEPSAC Class AA honors as a freshman. Lezama, like Armbrister, is a significantly better athlete than most players in her class. With a polished transition game and tenacious ability to attack one-on-one, Lezama is an absolute force. She received a scholarship offer from Boston College in the eighth grade.
No. 2: Taina Mair, Brooks/Rivals
The NEPSAC Class B Player of the Year, Mair is a fearless scorer and attacks the basket with authority. A 5-foot-9 guard, Mair averaged 18 points per game for the Class B champs. She received offers from Boston College and George Washington early in her high school career. Mair is also a creative playmaker, which opens things up for her on the drive. She was invited to the Adidas top 50 camp last year. Mair has some power-5 interest.
No. 1: Shay Bollin Shay Bollin 6'3" | SF Bridgewater-Raynham | 2022 #26 Nation MA , Bridgewater-Raynham/Bay State Jaguars
Ranked No. 20 in her class by ESPN and No. 26 in the class of 2022 by Prep Girls Hoops, Bollin is a well-known player nationally. The 6-foot-3 wing plays in the post for her high school team, but scores more naturally on the wing with the Bay State Jaguars. A two-time Boston Globe Super Teamer, Bollin is fielding offers or interest from just about every college program in the country. Her outside game makes her a mismatch for most defenders. Bollin averaged 18.8 points and 10 rebounds per game this past high school season.
