Some of them are still hoping to have great summers to add value to their game and raise their recruiting stock. Some of them are already established and already know where they want to play. Let’s dive into some of the top post players in their class.
Addison O’Grady Addison O’Grady 6'3" | PF Grandview | 2021 State #45 Nation CO (Grandview)
Committed to play for the University of Iowa, O’Grady is a tough player to contain with her ability to dominate low-post to mid-post, and has shown a willingness to shoot from the outside at times. She has a great mid-range shot that puts teams in a tough position to choose to guard her or stay with Betts. O’Grady is ranked 45th in the Prep Girls Hoops national rankings and No. 1 in Colorado’s 2021 Class. She can also push pace in transition and has a high basketball IQ, which helped her average 10.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.6 blocks per game in 2019-20. Standing at 6-foot-3, O’Grady shot the ball 124 for 216 (57 percent) from the field as a junior and was second on the Wolves’ roster in both field goal percentage and attempts.
Courtney Wristen Courtney Wristen 6'2" | PF Broomfield | 2021 State CO (Broomfield)
Wristen is a game-changing player who is physical, has great mobility and is very athletic. Standing at 6-foot-2, she can score in the post or stepping outside the 3-point line. The Eagles post does a great job setting screens and securing rebounds, and averaged 14.2 points per game on 107-for-245 (44 percent) shooting from the field in 2019-20. Wristen also shows the ability to push the tempo when she needs to and to go along with her scoring, she also averaged nine rebounds, 1.8 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. Wristen is on her way to joining the 1,000-point club, already having amassed 857 in her career to date.
Haley Van Horn Haley Van Horn 5'10" | PF Mullen | 2021 State CO (Mullen)
Van Horn (5’10) is a player who shows the ability to attack downhill off the dribble and is an unselfish player who does a great job of getting her teammates involved. The Mustangs post only played her second season on the varsity roster this past winter and proved that she can do what it takes to help her team, which has dominated Class 4A for the past several years. Despite only averaging 1.8 assists per game, Van Horn makes the right reads and also averaged five points and 4.9 rebounds per game. The daughter of former NBA player Keith Van Horn, this player has a great basketball pedigree and shot the ball at a 57-for-134 (43 percent) clip from the field as a junior.
Brooklyn Seymour Brooklyn Seymour 5'11" | PF Ralston Valley | 2021 State CO (Ralston Valley)
Seymour (5’11) is an athletic player who is looking to continue to add range to her shot. An exceptionally athletic and physical player, she already does well running the rim and establishing post position with her guard-like skill set. Seymour is able to finish around the rim with creativity and consistently has an impact presence at both ends of the floor. She has great pace to her game and a great mid-range shot, and when she does step outside she shows the ability to knock down open 3-point shots. Seymour averaged 8.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. Seymour also put up a season high in points with 20 against a tough Columbine team last season in a game where she went 8 for 14 (57 percent) from the field.
Chelsea Groves Chelsea Groves 6'0" | C Highlands Ranch | 2021 State CO (Highlands Ranch)
On one of the top teams in the state where it’s tough to earn minutes on the varsity roster, Groves (6’0) has been proving herself to her coaches and continues to develop her game to add value to the team. Groves does a good job of keeping her feet moving inside in the post and establishes good post positioning. Standing at 6-foot-0, she has the physicality to hold her own in the post and make it tough for the defense to gain an advantage. Despite not having eye-popping stats, Groves impacts the game. As a junior, she averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game, and was an efficient offensive player who went 27 for 50 (54 percent) from the field in 2019-20.
