Two of the three won at least 10 games and reached the state playoffs while the other got close and will have a chance to get there this upcoming season. Who are some of the players that’ll have a say in their respective programs success? Here are the top returning guards to lookout for in Edgecombe County during the 2020-21 season.
Jer’lisah Pridgen (SouthWest Edgecombe guard, 2023)
Rising sophomore guard Jer’lisah Pridgen has the potential to be one of the best players in the county over the next few years. She averaged nine points, four rebounds, two steals, and one block per game for SouthWest Edgecombe this past season. As a freshman, she was one of the more efficient players in the area shooting 54% from the field and 40% from three point range. Expect her production to go up this season and that’ll help the Cougars sustain their history of success.
Jada Battle (SouthWest Edgecombe guard, 2021)
Jada Battle has received a lot of interest from college programs after having an excellent junior season for the Cougars. She put up 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals per contest as SouthWest Edgecombe finished the season 16-10. As a senior, her role as a scorer will likely increase with the graduation of leading scorer Bailey Davis and shes very capable of leading the Cougars offense. Lookout for Battle to have a big senior year as she looks to help the Cougars challenge in a tough Eastern Plains 2-A conference.
Nala Bowen (North Edgecombe guard, 2023)
Another 2023 prospect that could significantly improve this season is North Edgecombe guard Nala Bowen. As a freshman, she had an instant impact on the Warriors program putting up some really good scoring outputs throughout the year. If she improves during the 2020-21 season, it would help her teams chances of reaching the 1-A state playoffs.
Shakira Tillery (North Edgecombe guard, 2021)
The top returning scorer for North Edgecombe this upcoming season is rising senior guard Shakira Tillery. She poured in a ton of points as the year progressed and she’ll likely be asked to increase her output in 2021. Her return along with Bowen should help the Warriors improve on their 8-13 record from this past season.
