Players from all over Southern Arizona was in attendance to complete in front of Arizona’s two certified NCAA scouts including MTCPreps. All games were live streamed. Here are some of the top upperclassmen at the event.
Mia Carter Mia Carter 5'8" | CG Safford | 2021 State AZ (5’8’’, Thatcher, 2021, CG)
Carter’s motor is unquestionable. She will get at the 50/50 balls as Carter was all over the court in her showcase games. First time viewing of Carter and I came away impressed her ability to attack the rim and her desire to play defense on the opposite team’s best player. Carter played a huge part in Thatcher capturing the 2A state tile in basketball last year. Legitimate D2 prospect.
Jaya Nelson Jaya Nelson 5'8" | PF Salpointe Catholic | 2021 State AZ (5’10’’, Salpointe Catholic, 2021, 2G/W)
Nelson appeared smooth and polished during the event. She handled the ball well, shot it well and her court vision created scoring opportunities for others on the team. Nelson is one of the top uncommitted 2021s and she is currently being recruited by some of the top D1 academic schools in the country. Always love to watch her ball… expect her decision in the fall.
Sunday Leopoldo (5’11,Cholla, 2022, 2G/W)
Leopoldo is one of the most athletic players in the state for her class. Although she is still developing her skill set, her body type translates well to the college level. Leopoldo was great in transition and slashing to the basket. She is only a junior so I am interested to see how she develops over the next 9 months. Leopoldo posted some impressive numbers during her soph year averaging nearly 16 points a game and 10 boards from the wing position. She was a First Team All Conference (5A Sonoran) performer. A big time sleeper here.
Tamia Clardy (5’5, Tucson Magnet, 2022, 2G)
Clardy has improved a ton over the last 12 months and she is primed for a breakout year for the Badgers. She consistently showed the ability to knock down the mid-range jumper and Clardy has a crafty but efficient handle. She plays with t ton of energy. Clardy is a high riser for sure so don’t sleep on this prospect.
Alani Encinas Alani Encinas 5'9" | CG Buena | 2022 State AZ (5’9’’, Buena, 2022, CG)
Encinas is one of the better shooters in the state and her ball handling is on point. She plays with a lot of moxy and confidence and Encinas is rather skilled. As with most players with a thin build, she will need to get stronger at the next level….but the talent, skill and desire is there. She had a good showing at the event and we look forward to watching her perform in August. Encinas is currently being recruited at the D1 level and she was named to the 2nd team 5A All Conference.
Jayda Pina (6’1, Marana, 2021, PF/C)
Pina played hard at the camp. She demonstrated a good motor and she is really intent on getting better. Pina has good size, movement and her skill around the basket has shown improvement with every showing. Pina was the biggest player at the event and she was intent on using her size advantage in the showcase games. Pina is working her way up to a legitimate D2 prospect.
Zaneida Zamora (5’4’’, Cholla, PG)
Zamora is one of the hardest working lead guards that you will come across. She averaged 16 points and 6 assists for the Chargers this past year earning first team all region (5A Sonoran) . Zamora dictates the pace, she has very good court vision and she is a coach on the floor. Zamora is just a solid performer.
Anneliese Felix (5’4’’, Sunnyside)
Felix is another hard working PG that puts the pressure on the defense with her penetration to the basket. She is a pass first PG who has a good understanding of her strengths. Felix is physical on both ends. She earned 2nd team All 5A Southern Region honors.
