The 2024 class is deep in talent and this group of combo guards is simply exceptional. A combo guard is a player who is capable of fulfilling the responsibilities of both the shooting guard or the point guard positions and can transition between both roles with ease. Combo guards are usually taller than traditional point guards and is often classified as a “scoring point guard“. Combo guards are usually the team’s secondary ball handler and often will take the responsibility of guarding the opponents best scoring guard.
Here is a list of 2024 point guards (in alphabetical order) that will be ranked during the next update in August.
Abigail Dean (5’5’’, Boulder Creek) – A smart and skilled guard can also play both spots and is very steady performer. Dean was injured some during her 8th grade so we didn’t get to see her as much as we would have liked. Dean is healthy now and starting to return to form and we are looking forward to watching her perform in the near future.
Amayah Freeland (’5’8’’, Mountain Point) – Freeland is so consistent and she makes excellent decisions on the court. She is a player who rarely makes the same mistake twice. Solid fundamentals, efficient scorer and Freeland loves to play the game.
Dominique Nesland (5’9’’, Xavier) – Tremendous passer and very advanced understanding of the game for such a young player. A bigger guard with nice blend of discipline and splash. Intense competitor and a great will to win. Passes the eye test.
Ellison Guiney (5’8’’, Millennium) – So much potential with this prospect and she is only scratching the surface. Guiney has the foundation to be a special player by the time she leaves high school. Nice release on her jumper to complement her all around game.
Jocelyn Chavez Jocelyn Chavez 4'0" | C La Joya Community | 2023 AZ (5’9’’, Dysart) – Elite shooter who becomes very special when she is getting into the lane and dissecting the defense. Crafty ball handler who has various shifts and gears. Physically, mentally and skillfully ready to take Dysart to another level in her freshman year.
Mia Singstock (5’6’’, Pinnacle) – Singstock is one of those players that will do all the intangibles to put her team in the best winning situation. She will take the big shots, she will defend the opposing team’s best player and Singstock will take care of the ball when she is directing the offense.
Sarah Miller (5’9’’, Xavier) – Miller has increased her skills, strength and athleticism over the past 12 months. When we first evaluated Miller as a talented 7th grader, she did most of her damage on the inside. Miller has successfully transitioned into a big guard and is ready to make a splash on the high school scene. She plays will a lot purpose and desire and Miller hates to lose. A top level incoming freshman.
Savanna Creal (5’5’’, Hamilton) – A nice combination of a scorer and passer. A cerebral player makes plays and can score it from all levels. Creal is versatile enough to play 3 positions on offense. She will figure out a way to contribute on Hamilton this upcoming season.
Shay Ijiwoye (5’5’’, Desert Vista) – Explosive athlete and a student of the game. Probably a pure point guard at the next level but will be more of a scoring point guard in high school. Not afraid to take the big shot and she doesn’t buckle to pressure. Ijiwoye has been playing 17U since the completion of the 7th grade. A guard that is just a bucket
Ysabel Puente (5’7’’, Sunrise Mountain) – Puente has the potential to be a very effective defender going forward. She moves laterally well, has good length, a solid base and she is a high effort player. Puente also excels in the open court as she is a natural athlete. We did not get to see enough of her in the 8th grade…nonetheless we have been following her for a while so we know what she is capable of.
