Continue ReadingI’ve called 6’0 or taller “the magic number” for years simply because of the numerous phone calls from college coaches I’ve received for a decade asking for a player that size and I mean I’ve received those calls a week before classes even started so if you have size with any type of ability, chances are you’re going to play somewhere at the next level. Skyrise brought a trio, two of which are already on my 2021 Top 100 list, Tierra Simon Tierra Simon 6'2" | C Heights | 2021 State TX (Heights) and Taylor Jackson Taylor Jackson 6'1" | C Cy Creek | 2021 State TX (Cy Creek) but they have another one I’ve written about numerous times so with that being said, here ya go
2021
Ashley Ngene-Skyrise (Tompkins)
Ngene brings strength and power tot he inside and she’s able to play both the 4 and the 5 positions. Good rebounder on both ends of the court and she also can bed overpowering when she finishes because contact makes no difference. Good hands and feet defends well
Gabrielle Heutter-Lady Thunder 17U (Magnolia)
Huetter was definitely a pleasant surprise when I attended the Lady Thunder/Austin Elite combine, more on that later but she’s long and athletic and if you pay attention, that’s the base and this enables her to attack freely from anywhere because she can handle the ball. Creates her shot well, mid to long is solid
2022
Sydney Maxwell- DC Queens Barnett (Clear Falls)
Maxwell was one of the stars on opening day, I’m loving her progression since I saw her in December as she’s moving well without the ball and even stepping outside of the paint to defend but she can rebound on both ends and finishes after the lick
Shakera Duncan-Houston United Hoops Red (Worthing)
Duncan is long and athletic and understands how to use it because her first step is long and gets her to the rim but her timing also stood out as she blocked altered and deflected shots. She rebounds on both ends and runs the floor on the break
Falon Green-Houston United Hoops Blue (Worthing)
Green’s upside is intriguing simply because of her desire. She does the simple things like boxing out for rebounds and she understands how to get position around the basket. She keeps her arms up and open, catches the ball consistently and finishes
Keasia Robinson Keasia Robinson 6'2" | PF Dobie | 2022 State TX -Showtime Queens Elite (Dobie)
Robinson’s upside is scary, long, and very athletic and she has several tools to work with and she does things instinctively which is always good. I was even more impressed after my initial sighting as she finished consistency and defended well
2024
Melinda Winston-Texas Elite Adidas D’Addieco
Winston has a strong body, she relishes the contact and it doesn’t ‘t phase her but she finishes after the lick, runs the floor nicely, and can ignite the break and finish on the other end. She’s a good rebounder, moves her feet on defense and even stepped out to hit some shots
