Continue ReadingAs we look to move forward to another season of girls basketball in the Virginia Beach area. Let’s get into the city rankings and take a look at these athletes who will have a chance to show their talents for the next few years. Here is the Top 10 Class of 2023 players to watch:
#1 – Zakiyah Stephenson |5-5 G| Princess Anne
Zakiyah is a very athletic guard who has moves for days, attacking the rim relentlessly finishing strong with her euro, step back, and hesi. She is on a team full of athletes but she is going to be something to look forward to for years to come. Just watch…
#2 – Jenesis Hill |5-9 SG| Landstown
Jenesis is a scorer who averaged around 11.7 PPG during the season. She scored 17 points including 6 in the fourth quarter to rally her team back for a win at the Booker T. Washington Holiday Classic game. She gives effort on the boards and on the defensive end, scoring 13 points, 5 steals, and 5 rebounds in Class 6 Region A quarterfinal win. Jenesis earned All-Beach District 2nd Team honors for the season.
#3 – Taylor Ethridge |5-7 G| Catholic
Taylor is a knockdown shooter who can spot up and score from behind the arc. She plays hard throughout the game by being active on the boards and defensive end, running the floor really well-turning steals into easy transition points, averaging 12.8 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 2.1 APG throughout the season. Taylor also earned TCIS All-Conference First Team honors on the season.
#4 – Aniyah Williams |5-4 G | Gateway
Aniyah is a small athletic guard who uses her quickness and athletic ability to get steals and rebounds. She uses her defense to get steals, being in a position to get long rebounds, and scoring in transition. She has averaged 4.3 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 3.4 SPG throughout the season.
#5 – Lexa Hunter |5-8 G,F| Catholic
Lexa is a guard with high basketball IQ who can handle the ball and also use her size and strength to play the forward position. She has averaged 3.5 PPG, 3.3 RPG throughout the season.
#6 – Jaliyah Hamilton |5-2 G| Bayside
Jaliyah is a speedy guard who is an animal on the defensive end, averaging 14.3 SPG throughout the season. She is all over the floor playing scrappy and hounding anyone who has the ball. Jaliyah uses her defense to get steals and score in transition, scoring around 3.3 PPG.
#7 – Jatori Jones |5-5 PG| Kempsville
Jatori is a go-get-it guard who plays hard throughout the game on both ends of the floor. She uses her relentless effort and athletic ability to put pressure on the offense and going all the way to the basket strong in transition, averaging around 3 PPG mostly in transition points.
#8 Keyandra Ware |PF| Green Run
Keyandra is a strong forward who is tough on the boards and plays hard in the post. She plays well in the post with different moves or just going up strong, she also keeps her head up to find open players if she gets doubled. Keyandra has had games throughout the season with double figures in rebounding.
#9 – Callie Clarkson |5-11 C| Ocean Lakes
Callie is a center who plays big down low by protecting the paint and blocking shots. She had a game where she had 6 blocks.
#10 – Joselyn Johnson |SF| Salem
Joselyn is a very tough small forward who plays aggressively and who is willing to get on the floor for lose balls. She has basketball IQ and knows how to play the passing lanes to get steals.
