Not at Prep Girls Hoops.
With things starting to open back up and hope for a 2020-21 season rising, here’s the first part of our look at five soon-to-be seniors who will have a major impact on how things shake out in Colorado’s Class 1A this winter.
Lanai Anderson, 5’11, F, Edison
Anderson was a double-double machine in 2019-20, posting 18 in 23 games as a junior. The 5-foot-11 forward is a three-sport varsity athlete for the Eagles who also competes in volleyball and track, and her all-around athleticism shows on the basketball court. Last winter, she averaged an impressive 13.9 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.3 steals, two assists and 1.1 blocks per game. Anderson even flashed an ability to knock down the occasional 3-pointers, shooting 24 percent from behind the arc. Expect a big upcoming campaign from her as the Eagles look to make it out of districts.
Kylee Christensen, 5’4, CG, Sangre de Cristo
Christensen took a big step forward in terms of her 3-point shooting last winter, averaging 34 percent (38 for 111) from behind the arc. Also a talented volleyball player, Christensen averaged 14.7 points, 4.2 steals, 2.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game last season. With Christensen serving as the team’s pace-setter, the Thunderbirds posted a 20-4 record and the state tournament in 2019-20.
Anela Dixon Anela Dixon 5'8" | PG Mile High Academy | 2021 State CO , 5’8, PG, Mile High Academy
Despite being one of the top returning scorers in Class 1A, Dixon is also an unselfish player who has a knack for setting up her teammates. The point guard not only led her team with 13.2 point per game, she also averaged a team-high 5.7 assists a night. Active on the boards and on defense, Dixon also averaged 4.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists as a junior in 2019-20 and it should be fun to watch her put up another robust stat line this winter.
Bryn Durrill Bryn Durrill 5'8" | CG Flatirons Academy | 2021 State CO , 5’8, PG/SG, Flatirons Academy
Just outside the top 20 scorers last season, Durrill averaged 14.4 points per game while shooting 47 percent (130 for 276) from the field. A lefty shooter, Durrill is a smooth three-sport athlete (basketball, soccer and volleyball) who can get to the rim and finish with either hand. She also has good court vision and feel for the game, averaging 3.5 assists, five rebounds and 2.7 steals a night in 2019-20. Durrill will anchor a young lineup that includes her younger sister Kenlee Durrill Kenlee Durrill 5'10" | PG Flatirons Academy | 2023 State CO and Savana Kasack in the upcoming season with lofty goals.
Koylynn Gulliford, 6’1, C, Cotopaxi
Voted to the CHSAA all-state second team for Class 1A, Gulliford powered the Pirates to the Final Four. Another three-sport athlete (basketball, volleyball and track) who has natural athleticism, the 6-foot-1 forward nearly averaged a double-double with 16 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Gulliford also anchored the Cotopaxi defense to the tune of 4.3 steals and 2.5 blocks a night.
