But defense can wins games as effectively as offense can and every team needs that player who can turn defense into offense for herself and her teammates.
Here are some Colorado players in Class 2A that have led in steals by playing hard and smart at the defensive end.
Abi Snyder Abi Snyder 5'8" | PG Rocky Ford | 2021 State CO (2021, Rocky Ford)
Snyder is one of the top scorers in class 2A averaging 17.3 points per game on 149-405 (37 percent) from the field. She does a great job moving her feet on defense, and has active hands getting her hands on a lot of steals. She averaged 5.0 steals per game, and 121 steals this past season. She is an able shooter behind the arc, and can finish around the rim with both hands. With more year to play she is at 305 steals in her career.
Amana Malki (2022, Lotus School For Excellence)
Malki is a player that can score the among the best in her league she averaged 18.5 points per game on 160-310 (52 percent) from the field. She is efficient, and can get to the rim with good touch. She came up with 100 steals on the season as a sophomore, and averaged 4.5 steals per game. Malki has good anticipation, and good feel on the defensive end. To go along with her points, and steals per game she also averaged 7.1 rebounds per game. She had a season high in steals with 10, and scoring 23 points.
Aspen Riesberg (2021, Platte Canyon)
Riesberg a player that can create a lot of turnovers for the other team. She does well jumping to the ball, and getting in the passing lanes. She averaged 17.3 points per game on 95-267 (36 percent) from the floor. She had a season high in steals with 9, and had a total of 83 steals in the season. Riesberg also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 2.0 assist, and 2.4 steals per game. Scoring a season high in points with 29 on 12-23 (52 percent) from the floor she will look to continue to lead her team
Trinity Perry (2021, Burlington)
Perry is a player that had to be versatile to help her team the best that she could. She led her team in multiple stats this past year averaging 16.6 points per game. She also averaged 10.1 rebounds, 2.2 assist, 4.2 steals, and 2.4 blocks per game. Heading into her senior year she will look to boost her stats, and with her ability to create turnovers for opponents which will lead to easy basket on the other end. She has shown big improvements in her game each year.
Ryanna Pruett (2021, Fowler)
Despite not having numbers pop out at you Pruett is a player that has made a huge improvement in her game since her sophomore season. Pruett averaged 7.4 points per game on 62-151 (41 percent) from the floor. She came up with 82 steals this past season, and averaged 4.1 steals per game. Pruett shows signs of being able to knock down shots from behind the arc when the opponent comes. Shooting 6-14 (43 percent) from behind the arc. She had a season high in steals with 9
