Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2023’s who need to be on your radar.
Camille Kruse Camille Kruse 5'7" | PG Fort Madison | 2023 State IA – Fort Madison
In her debut on the varsity scene, Fort Madison’s Camille Kruse Camille Kruse 5'7" | PG Fort Madison | 2023 State IA made a splash, scoring 232 points in 21 games. She also had 94 rebounds with 41 steals, 38 assists and even blocked five shots.
Kruse was the leader in a youth movement for the team, as three other Class of 2023 players saw considerable action.
The guard knocked down a team-leading 40 three-pointers, shooting almost 34 percent from deep. Kruse also hit 70 percent of her free throws.
Andrea Lopreato – Mount Pleasant
The learning curve was little for Mount Pleasant’s Andrea Lopreato.
Lopreato picked up 38 offensive rebounds on her way to 102 total boards. She also had 115 points to go along with 26 steals, 14 assists and seven blocked shots.
She shot over 33 percent from the field with five made three-pointers while also getting to the free throw line 49 times and making 57 percent of her attempts.
Kayde Martin – Keokuk
Keokuk’s Kayde Martin made nine starts and saw action in 22 games as a newcomer.
Martin recorded 83 points with 46 rebounds, 42 assists and 41 steals. The guard made nine three-pointers, and should see her production increase by improvement in her overall shooting.
Hattie Hagedorn – North Scott
As a ninth-grader, Hattie Hagedorn stepped in and played in 18 games for North Scott.
Hagedorn accounted for 62 points, adding 23 assists, 19 rebounds and seven steals for the Lancers, who went a perfect 26-0 and capped off the year by winning the Class 4A state title over Lewis Central.
Molly Knipe – Fort Madison
Another newcomer who carved out a spot in the rotation for Fort Madison was Molly Knipe.
Knipe recorded 66 points with 96 rebounds and 14 steals, knocking down eight three-pointers for the Bloodhounds.
