Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Alexis Beier Alexis Beier 5'8" | SG Linn-Mar | 2022 State IA – Linn-Mar
A big sophomore season for Linn-Mar’s Alexis Beier Alexis Beier 5'8" | SG Linn-Mar | 2022 State IA should have her primed for an even bigger year this coming winter.
Beier recorded 245 points in 22 games, making eight starts. She added 78 rebounds, 34 assists and 13 steals, shooting over 40 percent from the field for the Lions with a team-leading 45 made three-pointers.
She was also effective at the free throw line, sinking 73 percent of her 41 attempts.
Meredith Rieker Meredith Rieker 5'10" | SG Valley | 2022 State IA – West Des Moines Valley
West Des Moines Valley’s Meredith Rieker Meredith Rieker 5'10" | SG Valley | 2022 State IA ended her sophomore campaign with 226 points scored on almost 37 percent shooting from the field.
Rieker made 34 three-pointers with 73 rebounds, 42 steals, 24 assists and nine blocked shots. She also knocked down 38 of 50 free throws.
Tori Knight Tori Knight 5'9" | SF Cedar Rapids Kennedy | 2022 State IA – Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Cedar Rapids Kennedy used a couple of Class of 2022 players to fill out the rotation including Tori Knight Tori Knight 5'9" | SF Cedar Rapids Kennedy | 2022 State IA .
Knight recorded 185 points in 21 games with 16 starts, adding 69 rebounds, 18 steals, 11 assists and 11 blocked shots. She made 35 percent of her shots and knocked down 31 three-pointers for the Cougars.
Brooke Woodyard Brooke Woodyard 6'0" | PF Southeast Polk | 2022 State IA – Southeast Polk
Southeast Polk’s Brooke Woodyard Brooke Woodyard 6'0" | PF Southeast Polk | 2022 State IA played in 24 games with 11 starts last year, offering up scoring and rebounding in bunches for the Rams.
Woodyard recorded 175 points and 130 rebounds, including 60 boards on the offensive glass. She also had 26 assists and 13 steals.
Ella Cadenhead – Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Look for more production and success out of Class of 2022’s Ella Cadenhead for Cedar Rapids Kennedy this coming winter.
Cadenhead is coming off a year in which she scored 77 points on 42 percent shooting from the floor with 15 made three-pointers. She also had 34 rebounds, 20 assists and 12 steals.
