Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2023’s who need to be on your radar.
Brooklin Dailey Brooklin Dailey 5'8" | SF Southeast Polk | 2023 State IA – Southeast Polk
As a newcomer, Brooklin Dailey Brooklin Dailey 5'8" | SF Southeast Polk | 2023 State IA had no trouble fitting into the rotation at Southeast Polk.
Dailey started nearly every game this past winter, scoring 275 points with 100 rebounds, 58 assists, 14 steals and 11 blocked shots. She was incredibly effective from the floor, shooting 55 percent with 28 made three-pointers.
Meena Tate Meena Tate 5'11" | SG Iowa City West | 2023 State IA – Iowa City West
It was a debut season to remember for Meena Tate Meena Tate 5'11" | SG Iowa City West | 2023 State IA at Iowa City West.
Tate started 23 games, recording 155 points with 73 rebounds, 57 assists and 32 steals. She helped the Trojans win 14 games, shooting almost 40 percent from the field with 26 made three-pointers.
Maddie Brown – West Des Moines Valley
It was a bit of a learning experience for West Des Moines Valley’s young roster last winter, as the Tigers went 14-8 overall and finished second in the CIML Iowa Conference.
One of the key newcomers was Class of 2023’s Maddie Brown she recorded 65 points, 67 rebounds, 22 assists and 12 steals in 22 games.
Anna Prouty Anna Prouty 6'0" | PF Iowa City West | 2023 State IA – Iowa City West
Last year, Anna Prouty Anna Prouty 6'0" | PF Iowa City West | 2023 State IA filled a key role for Iowa City West coming off the bench.
In 20 games, the Class of 2023 Prouty recorded 64 rebounds with 39 points, four assists, three steals and three blocks. She made over 45 percent of her field goal attempts and shot 53 percent at the charity stripe.
Ana Spaine – West Des Moines Valley
Another young piece to the puzzle for West Des Moines Valley is Class of 2023’s Ana Spaine.
This past season, Spaine recorded 42 points with 27 rebounds, 24 assists and 12 steals in 20 games, including six starts.
