The Arizona Select 15U team won both games including the “game of the day” win over a very good Colorado Premier team. This team is currently 6-0 over the past 2 weekends after an impressive showing last weekend in a Las Vegas tournament. Sienna Cherwinski Sienna Cherwinski 5'7" | PG Xavier Prep | 2023 State AZ (2023, Xavier) has been a consistent force for the Select by dictating the pace and taking care of the ball when she is running the point. Dominique Nesland (2024, Xavier) has had some impressive moments at both guard positions and on the defensive end. Nesland is solidifying her place as one of the very best incoming freshmen for the 2024 class. Bella Barrett Bella Barrett 5'11" | SF Millennium | 2023 State AZ (2023, Verrado) joined the squad this weekend and she appears to be a perfect compliment to Hannah Young (2023, Xavier) especially when they are on the court together. Madelynn Muniz (2023, PHH) shot the ball well during the past couple of weekends especially from the mid-range and behind the arc. Her perimeter defense and overall energy stood out in both games.
TWE finished 2-0 behind the strong inside presence Michaela Lee (2023, Deer Valley). Lee’s older sister recently committed to Western New Mexico and the younger Lee is farther ahead at this stage of her high school career. Lee is a good athlete and has a high ceiling. It was great to finally catch up with Rickelle Andrade (2023, Deer Valley). Andrade has long been considered as one of the most accurate long ball shooters in class. She has added controlled ball handling, an improved court vision and she is noticeably taller since our last viewing of her in December. Andrade was an all region performer as a freshman so the future is bring for this prospect.
Rachel Early Rachel Early 5'7" | CG Dobson | 2021 State AZ (2021, Dobson) and Priscila Varela (2021, Mesquite) were Day 1 standouts for the AZ Lady Phenoms. Early had a breakout performance in the first game as she was scoring at all three levels. She is an underrated and dynamic prospect for the class of 2021 and one of the better uncommitted players in the class. Varela’s is one on better athletes in the state. She constantly put the pressure on the defense with her ability to attack the rim. She is finishing better and Varela is showing a more consistent mid range jumper. Her defense was a highlight as well.
Arizona Select 17U (Boyd) and 16U (Karre) teams remained undefeated with an overall record of 12-0 (both weekends). We previewed the 17U team last week and we will preview the 16U team in the upcoming week. By the way…the 17U team consists of 7 players and 5 of the players have already committed to D1 programs.
