Continue ReadingI finally had a good nights sleep, for me, not the average person yet I’m no average evaluator and my job is to “find that player” so I roll around courts for new faces and at an event like this, it can be overwhelming so “the heavy hitters” are coming, I wanted to try and at least get opening day at PBR Heart of Texas out of the way as I get ready for another event so I’ll try to finish as I head to San Antonio for She’s Ballin The Blueprint where numerous mansions will be built
2021
Skylar Barnes-5’9 SF-DFW Elite 17U Select (Lancaster HS)
Barnes has “ups” which is something that’s always embedded in my head as I play things back and although her elevator goes up, it’s also under control as she jumps over defenders attacking the basket and is an “and one” waiting to happen. Nice pull-up in traffic, she mans up baseline to baseline on defense but the icing on the cake for me was watching her play the passing lane
2022
Madeleine Tipton-5’10 SG/SF-Arkansas Sting (Vilonia HS)
Tipton has the right name combined with her team’s name so let me give you a TIP, she a TON of threes and hearing those nets STING got me going because one more time, I love watching the long ball drop and with multiple players on the team that can do that, she probably was one of the best catch and shooters on opening day. It also helps that she can create off the dribble
Ayen Angoi-5’11 PF-Texas Nation Elite Otis (Bishop Lynch HS)
Angoi is improving Satan astounding rate and understand this “size matters” when you can play and power is just something special so her combining that with an improved skill set is making her a terror in the paint. Watching her finish with players hanging on her was special as she’s simply taken her game to another level yet potential is still there and it’s scary
Gabby Elliot-6’0 SF-SA Finest Tay Bo (Smithson Valley HS)
Elliot is another fresh face from the loaded pool of talent throughout the organization and the progression I’m seeing is what jumped out at me. I liked her when I first saw her yet she’s moving without the ball better and getting hers in the flow but one thing just stood out and totally impressed me was seeing her not only rebound on both ends but when she snagged one hand, I dropped the mic, well the book
2023
Kylie Marshall Kylie Marshall 5'9" | CG Mansfield Lake Ridge | 2023 State TX -5’9 SF-Team Lex Nation
Marshall did so many new things that impressed me like exploding off the dribble with an impressive first step and finishing with contact yet she can also make passes on the money going full speed and seeing the floor and getting the ball to the right people is always a good thing. She’s long and athletic, you know that’s the base I start with and she plays the passing lane
Baylor Franz-5’6 COMBO- OK Dwarm 2021 David (Edmond Memorial HS)
Franz is one of those, “Hey what’s your name” players because I had left my book and her shooting performance stood out in my head. After she told me, I said “awe man, I’ve written about you” yet those growth spurts when you haven’t seen someone in a couple of years, on and off the court, can leave you guessing but ain’t no guessing on her, she needs to be guarded immediately because that mid to long-range is automatic
Jadyn Atchinson-5’9 SG- Team Lex Loaded
Atchinson has me trying to understand my shorthand so I wet to her picture and voila, now I know what OTC means, off the chain. Actually, I already knew, but she sees the floor very well, she creates off the dribble, very well and has very good shot selection but her length and athletic ability, not to leave out she plays under control were all solid and that pull-up going full speed, very nice
2024
Kemyreul Wheaton-5’9 SF-Lady Thunder 17U (Madisonville HS)
Wheaton grabbed my attention a couple of years ago and I saw a whole lot of potential yet as she is now playing up, I’m watching her game rise as well as her poise and I think I said “once she realizes how good she is” all bets are off on how high she’ll soar, off the court because she elevates right now on the jumper and off the dribble yet her defense against the older players was solid
Paris Bradley-5’10 SG/SF-Cy Fair Elite Nike Coop (Hebron HS)
Bradley is yet another fresh face on a deeply talented squad of “somewhere at the next level” players these kids will fall but watching Bradley create her shot and the ball falling through the net on her jumper over and over hit me good because her shot is smooth, nice follow through and it helps that she can handle the ball and create her shot off of the dribble
2025
Sania Richardson-5’4 PG-BTR 15U UAA
Richardson caught my eye somewhere in the past but one more time, #sizedontamtter when you can play and keep in mind she’s going to the 8th grade, playing against some going into their senior seasons and handling her business. The pull-up jumper, check, ballhandling and attacking the basket, double-check, and seeing the floor gets the third big checkmark but her playing the passing lane…
