One more time, always be ready, you never know who’s watching, that knows what they’re looking at, and going over my notes, here’s part 1 of the day 2 new faces from the Heart Of Texas, I know I’m zig-zagging but in more than one
2023
Avery McConnell-5’6 Combo-Eaton HS (Texas Lone Star Navy)
McConnell caught my eye with her range, from afar, as many players did at #HOT because one thing that gets me going is the long ball dropping consistently but when I focused on her total game, her ability to mix it up by attacking the basket as well as seeing the floor and making the right pass had me nodding my head, yes, but when she also followed her shot numerous times, the icing was on the cake
Seniya Wilson-5’3 PG-James Bowie HS (Team Lex Future)
Wilson is strong and attacks the rim the same way and that old saying I hashtagged #sizedontmatter when you can play fits her because she definitely isn’t afraid and her constant attacking the basket off the dribble is a prime example of that but her athleticism and handling of the ball as well as her ability to create off the dribble gives her options
Miraya Perkins-5’9 F-Hazen HS (Cy Fair Elite 15U National Bush)
Perkins is one of those “never takes a play off” type of player, she creates her shot, which is fluid from midrange, she attacks strongly off the dribble and she finishes with contact but she goes hard and that’s either with her applying pressure on the defensive end or battling on both ends for rebounds but another key is that she understands positioning under the basket and having a former NBA star for a dad ……..
Shanel Reid-5’10 PF-Austin HS (Cy Fair Nike Elite 15U Bush)
Reid and Perkins are a couple of many from this squad, stay tuned but watching Reid tune-in on that jumper from deep had me wondering why, why, why because she can play, she’s athletic, she sees the floor and has a strong body which enables her to finish after contact but as the game progressed, the range became deeper, she also sees the floor and handles the ball well under pressure
2024
Mel Sanders-5’9 PF/C-Homeschool (OK PWP 2024 Red)
Sanders has the body, strength, and potential to raise some eyebrows from other than me and I just love seeing #THROWBACK players because see may not stand at “the magic number” which is 6’0, yet she plays as if she was and with her “you won’t outwork me” mindset, watching her battle on the inside was refreshing. She rebounds on both ends and finishes with contact
Ashna Tambe-5’6 Combo-Hockaday (Texas Elite Maroon Leverton)
Tambe is one of many talented young players on her team who are about to enter high school and I walked in late and just watched her do some of the things I love seeing like “court vision” and not only does she see the floor, her passes are crisp and on the money so she mixes it up nicely with good ballhandling and attacks the basket from multiple angles, oh yeah, the FLOATAHHHH
2025
Camille Williams-5’9 G/F (Pro Skills 13U National)
Williams is strong and already gets it as she displayed a multitude of skills that will take her a long way including throwing the outlet on the money after rebounding, which she does well on both ends. She attacks the basket and finishes strongly but she also sees the floor well and with her age combined with her strength as well as knowledge of the game, her upside in untapped
2026
Kyah Prestridge-BTR 2026
Prestridge looked familiar and when I looked at the roster it hit me. Okay I didn’t call her a #D1Lock the first time I saw her but after what I saw, I’m calling #BCSLock and throw away the key after her spin move made me dizzy but her consistent dropping of the 3 as well as so many offensive tools to work with, I’m just shaking my head because with all of the stars I have by her name, she could have a flag
