The NYG Hoops event featured a middle school division for 2024 and 2025 players as well as a high school division. Players came from all over the East Coast and put on a fairly rust-free performance considering the circumstances. Here is a look at some of the players who caught my eye.
Point Guards
Tiara Thompson, 2025, New Hope Academy
Tiara is a tough competitor with a strong handle. She showed off a nice, soft touch around the basket and competed on defense on every possession.
Amya Scott, 2025, Austin Meehan Middle School
Amya showed off some slick ball handling and the ability to make difficult passes, including entry passes into the post which is good for her age. She is a very skilled and talented player. I would like to see her go harder on defense next time out.
Paulina Paris, 2022, Albertus Magnus
Paulina has the complete package. She plays with poise and confidence at all times and adds a touch of flair that keeps all eyes on her at all times. She can score from all over the court and also excels at facilitating. She makes it look easy.
Ny’Ceara Pryor Ny’Ceara Pryor 5'2" | PG Western | 2022 State MD , 2022, Western
This was another good outing for Pryor. She started off in facilitator mode, setting up teammates by penetrating and dishing off. In the second game she started scoring in the paint, knocking down mid range pull ups and hit a couple of threes. Her calling card is defense so of course she put in work on that end as well, coming up with some steals and deflections in the passing lanes.
Ashley Dickey Ashley Dickey 5'6" | CG Catonsville | 2022 State MD , 2022, Catonsville
Another Baltimore guard who had a nice showing. Ashley is a high motored lefty that scraps on every defensive possession. She made a couple of pull up jumpers in transition and got into the lane pretty easily.
Post Players
Morgan Lee Morgan Lee 5'8" | SF Reservior | 2021 State MD , 2022, Kent School
At 6’4″ Morgan has legit size and she knows what to do with it. If she catches the ball anywhere in the paint it’s a wrap for defenders. She has a soft touch and really cleans the glass, especially on the offensive end.
Electra Allembert, 2021, New Hope Academy
Electra is about 6’2″ now and has tremendous length. She posted up strong, finished in traffic and crashed the offensive glass. She also had a couple of nice blocks and deterred a few others from trying. Definitely a good showing for the Virgin Island native.
