The last couple of days have been pretty active for some Michigan grassroots clubs and their players. I’m going to give you a list of players that gave me a really good first impression for this grassroots season.
Kenzie Bowers Kenzie Bowers 5'10" | PG Kent City | 2021 State MI (2021, PG, Kent City, West Michigan Drive 2021)
Bowers has been Bowers in typical Bowers fashion. This makes total sense to those that follow the game. During this event she has scored from anywhere, passed with precision, and defended at a high level.
Genevieve Decker Genevieve Decker 5'10" | SF Anchor Bay | 2021 State MI (2021, G, Anchor Bay, Michigan Cagers 2021)
I just like the way that Decker plays and approaches the game. She’s been a confident leader with supremely underrated athleticism at the USJN Premier Showcase. Decker seems to have the “IT” factor when in the gym.
Adelaide Douglass Adelaide Douglass C Mattawan | 2022 State MI (2022, F/C, Mattawan, Macon 6 Basketball Academy 17u)
The 6’4″ post player has the look of a star post player. Even playing up, she showed that she can move well and get behind the defense, as well as show the ability to pass over top of the defense. Douglass’ was especially impressive in a 14 point and 7 rebound win over the SMAC Lady Raiders.
Zoey Persails Zoey Persails 5'9" | CG Frankenmuth | 2022 State MI (2022, SG, Frankenmuth, Michigan Mystics 2022 – Voelker)
Persails has been lights out at the USJN Premier Showcase. She has led her team to a 3-0 record by way of 51 points in 3 games. Persails knocked down 5 triples in a win over CCE.
Sarah Rambus (2023, F/C, Flushing, Michigan Mystics Ruh 2022)
Rambus is a rising star in the state of Michigan. She uses her long strides to run the floor almost effortlessly. She’s a long defender that walls up on D and isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint. Rambus’ highlight of the week so far was a tough offensive rebound and put back bucket that earned a win over All Ohio.
Avery Zeinstra Avery Zeinstra 5'7" | PG Byron Center | 2022 State MI (2022, PG, Byron Center, West Michigan Drive Copeland 2022)
Zeinstra is proving to be 1 of the top lead guards in the state – Regardless of class. She led her Drive squad to a 2-0 record so far. In those 2 games against OH United and OH Xtreme, she scored 26 and 22 points.
